I have no picture but I saw a rat rod with an OPEN U joint at back of transmission INSIDE the Passenger compartment. I thought oh my. A jacket getting caught in it at 50 mph. or worse.

I saw this one thing at a carshow, I think the guy called it a rat rod. I know one thing, it scared the crap outta me! Oh and Evil Mean Wicked and Nasty, I think your signature matches that car!

You all have me beat by a ways.
We rebuild a friends Vicky a couple years ago and its frame was downright wrong.
4 wheel independednt jag setup but inorder to keep it narrow enough for the a the builder had it so stiff that 4 guys standing on it and jumping only flexed the tires.
The electrical was draped and wrapped here and there, and brakelines were supported by the electrical wires.

Its now got a very nice, safe and functional frame under it. he old junker got ebayed somehow for a whopping grand!

Did that thing get DRIVEN there?! Anyone else notice the complete lack of anything remotely resembling a functional cooling system? The radiator's the stock, unpressurized banger radiator, but who gives a shit since it's not hooked to anything anyhow... I don't see any inklings of a fan up there, wonder if there's even a belt?

EDIT: Wow, and the top part of the hairpin is a chain. And the drag link looks like it's made outta copper water pipe. Simply stunning... But the shocks sure are shiney.

"The Death Trap" ...In 1962, my associate helped build a 1951 Henry J with a mid-engine 392 Chrysler Hemi with a dual log manifold and 8 Stromberg 2-barrel carbs. You opened the doors to work on the engine.

Get this...The driver sat behind the engine and had to climb over the engine to get out of the vehicle. Can you visualize the carbs flooding and catching on fire. Hell, just climbing over a hot engine and headers is bad enough.

Here's the amazing thig about this shitheap: notice the clean-looking A-bone parked beside it. That's a nice car that the builder seems to have spent a good deal of time and money making a nice car out of it. And what are the spectators crowding around? Some hacked-up, pile of shit that very likely doesn't even run or drive, at least not very far.

Look at some of the girls they put on the cars in OSR and Rebel Rods, they can be pretty scary.

Yep, mounted thru a connecting rod radius rod bracket, with a chain seemingly in tension as the upper rod.

You are right; I did not see your reply when I posted the above.

Also note the angle of the drag link. That in and of itself is bad news.

The worst I saw was a 9 second Camaro passing inches in front of my Mustang right off the line, because he used rebar for his ladder bars, which bent immediatly when leaving...missed him by only a few inches....and he got right back in line to make another pass!

I brought this 48 Gmc off Evilbay awhile ago. When listed I ask if the frame had any rust? The then owner said a plate had been welded across behind the cab for strength but no apprent damage or rust thru! This is what I saw when we removed the bed(it wasn't bolted on) to push the truck up on my trailer. He did post photos of the fame just not this area! GO FIGURE!!.The frame had been hacked or rusted apart and welded back together with 1/4 plate steel. I still brought it after agreeing to pay less than I had bid, and replaced the frame with another I found on Ebay a month later. Also click on the last photo and look at the angle the motor is sitting at front to back!, more bad welds with the stock V8 motor mounts welded to the truck frame. A really hack job! Mel

there was a 15 year old kid (just starting out building rods) who wired up an entire GM van tilt steering column with non-insulated butt-connectors and made all the connections at the same point in the loom. just wrapped electrical tape around the whole thing and called it good. fun things happened turning the key ON for the first time. okay....it was me.
