It's time to adopt a rodder again. This time though, there's some competition. I'm in ORD this week for work and have a weekend to plan. It was LAX two weeks ago. The West Coast bunch really made me feel at home and steered me to some great hot rod related events. What do you fellas have to offer in the Chicago area this weekend? I have reservations at the premier Thirsty Thursday gathering at HRC&C with Ray and company. Anything happening Friday night, Saturday? Steer me right, fellas!
You hit the nail on the head with HRCC. Look here for more info courtesy of the Chrome Czars. http://www.chromeczars.com/board/
There's a swap meet in Belvidere ILL, ("Little Hershey Swap Meet & Car Show") this Saturday & Sunday. It's sponsored by the Rockford Chapter of the Model T International, so there is usually quite a few Model T / early Ford parts. It is about 80 ? miles west of Chicago, though.
Hey Scotty, If you want to make the trip out to Gilberts Friday Eve I would be happy to let you check out my shop / Asylum. Im guessin it's about a 30 minute ride west from Rays.
EXCELLENT! I got stuck over there last night. May have to go downtown to see the band play. That sounds right up my alley. Any parts swapping, BBQ, shit talklin'? I may have to lock myself up on this one. I have a long list and a short paycheck. PM me with the particulars. I'm there! Tell me more. One thing Chicago has that is giving Austin a run for the money is FOOD!
You could join us for breakfast at Chuck's on Saturday morning. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/group.php?do=discuss&group=&discussionid=309
for great food, stop at any of the twenty or so PORTILLOS restaurants they have the best Italian Beef sandwiches I've ever eaten http://www.portillos.com/portillos/ ------------------ looks like the Route 66 dragstrip had races scheduled, but have been postponed due to some top end work they are doing at the track.
Ah, Portillo's-can't get those Italian beefs up here in Wisconsin. You can't get a good "Irvings For Red Hot Lovers, or "You Dog YOu" hot dogs either. Dam, glad I have folks down in the Flat Land.
I spent Sunday, Monday and Tuesday in Chicago, and the only car stuff I got to see was the Oscar Mayer Weenie mobile was parked at a hotel there, and Tuesday got to go out to a buddy's house and go for his Maiden voyage of the year in his 69 Camaro. But it was a good time.
You could always get together with Abe Froman. You know? The sausage king of Chicago!? There's always the museums as well, if you haven't seen them. I'm always drawn to the Science and Industry Museum for some strange reason. Be careful what parking garage you park your Ferrari in...
Jump on a float on Wacker Drive and sing the Beatles! The Ferris Bueler Ferrari house is in my neck of the woods, in Highland Park. Ditto the 'Home Alone' house, 'Uncle Buck' house, 'Plains Trains and Automobiles' house, 16 Candles, Pretty in Pink, etc... 'Shermer High School' from Breakfast Club is actually Glenbrook North High. (movie director John Hughes is from this area)
Granted I'm not there anymore but I would have to disagree with the best italian beef sandwiches, they're at beef villa in elgin and dundee but portillos has the best dogs
Wow! You guys come out of the woodwork, don't you. I Love Portillo's! Breakfast at Chuck's is a GO! I can live without Abe. The museums do kick ass. My favorite is the Natural History Museum. Can't wait for the new movie. I can do Schaumburg, too! Mike, you just ran down my teen years in the back row of a movie theater! I actually met Mr. Zenor and Rocco at HRC&C tonight. Just missed the rowdy bunch. Somebody's birthday! It was great. Rocco schooled us on tin work in a very brief discussion. I'll have to get back by this weekend. What the hell is Debevics?! flt-blk, I had dinner in Lombard at Ki's tonight. That was well worth the stop!
Ed Debevics is a GREAT place to eat....old time 50's motiff. The staff are all part time actors and singer/dancers and will on occasion break into song. Food is good too. Downtown near the Rock and Roll Mickey Dee's.
If you don't want to go all the way to the loop, there is an Ed Debevics at the Yorktown Center in Lombard, about six miles south of HRC&C. See you at the SW Chicago HAMB and Eggs in the morning.
Ed Debevic's is a novelty restauraunt that tries to look like a 50s diner and encourages its staff to be smart asses. The food is good though. It's not in the loop though, more like River North/Gold Coast (north of the Loop) and only a few blocks from where I work
I'm over at 308 West Erie Hellfish, we must be near each other. Do you drive to work? What are the hours of the Busse Woods BBQ? I might do a drive by in an MDX or a TBSS since the Merc is still in primer.
Yeah, really close! I'm at Grand & State. We should grab lunch sometime. I take the bus & train to get here. $15/day parking is too much and it take the same time to get here as the train. The picnic/BBQ's official start time is 11:30. Several people will cruise over from HRCC after the 101 class
I was there last year (working at a different, service type job) and they do some really nice work- had a bunch of cars there. And it is one huge ass place!
