Here are some photos of Barris Customs. They are poor quality, but still very interesting... These where used at the Barris Exhibit at the NHRA Museum in 2007. Bill de Carr 1941 Mercury Identical twins??? On the right is George Barris own 41 Buick... Jesse Lopez with some new trophy's and grill friend... Dan Landon's Ayala/Barris Chevy Larry Ernst Chevy...
Hi Curt.....I never thought I'd ever see that one again......Gil Latus's..... Built by Frank or Fred Chevonak (sp) it was a two tone Purple Beauty that was always parked down the street from me as a kid. I'd pass it on the way to Southgate to see the '55 Ford (Kandyapple Kart) I asked you about earlier....Thanks for posting it. Centurion9
Here is a photo I got from ebay showing the second version of Dave Cunningham's 1940 Ford, also known as the Li'l Beauty. If anyone know when and where this photo is taken it would have been fun to know.
Man, I love that car! Sonny's Dodge was one of the most influential cars to me as a kid when I first saw it in Classic & Custom. Completely unrecognizable as to what he started with from a great mix of parts off of lots of other cars but yet a cohesive design and owner built to boot. What's not to like? Sonny's Dodge and Hub's 60 Buick....two cars I wish would end up in my garage some day.
i love the golden penny! there is a book i have called american rod and custom, that has a pic of it in there
I'm sorry, I'll sit down, raise my hand, and wait to be called on. And next time I'll take my questions about kustoms to a message board strictly for hot rods and kustoms. Here's a couple I scanned from a Rod and Custom recap issue.
WOW ! Getting scolded for asking questions about Kustoms ? Give me a break!!!! Newsflash ..... When there are a shitload of rare historical photos that are posted, there might be a couple of questions that might come up. So settle down before we call the WAAAAAAMbulance!!!!!!!!
Questions lead to answers... answers means more info... more info leads to better knowledge... A few more photos from the Wirths Custom Auto Collection Some of the show decorations is just to much Wonder if this pic will get the 51 Merc rear window discussion reopened
A few more photos from the Barris Exhibit at the NHRA Museum 2007 Bill Bush four door Bill Bush front showing and in the back it is Jerry Reichman's Merc. Both where four doors. Buddy Alcorn Merc with most body work done by Ayala This one comes from Paull Kelly's Collection. The location is well known from Barris Photo shoots. And although this is a scan of something that was printed and not an actual photos. I feel it belongs here. This is the back cover of the Dan Post Blue Book, and it shows many very early custom cars. Photos cut out and made into a collage. As long as I have this book I wondered how the complete photos of these must have looked. Some very obscure and also some very nicely styled early custom cars. The just found Jimmy Summers 36 Ford is also included, as are several early Barris cars.
Bob Zepke's '50 convertible at the '57 Hartford, CT Autorama. (car was built in '56) Bob is still into customs and currently owns an unchopped, sectioned '50 Ford coupe.
For those that got their feelings hurt.LOL Here's a revised quote for you. --------------------------------------------------- Now that the 51 Merc rear window discussion may be ending soon, here's some new photos to discuss.
It does look like its the same car, but I cannot be 100% sure. I have no additional photos or info on this car. But its an East Coast car so Perhaps 00MACK or TwoChops know more about it.
I will only know when I get home and look at Pat Ganahls book in which there is a pic of the car.Im 90 percent sure that the front shot is it as well just by the position of things. Im surprised the front blows as much as it does. I wish to the heavens above that I had a pic of Ernie Geisers 56 Chevy convert from Jersey.
Pat's book Charles Gibson's 1956 Chevy was good for first place in semi custom class at the 1961 Fort Wayne, Indiana, show. It has Packard taillights, bubble skirts, a roof scoop, and '58 Chevy quad lights. The chrome reversed rims are the only modern element. And it's painted plain white.
Rik, There was another car shown in that area, the color of which Im not sure, which I cant help but wonder whether or not it was the Barris 53 Ford convert updated with kate 50s Mopar lights. Both cars were featured in Ft Wayne show coverage in Custom Cars in the late 50s.
I would love to see more pics of this purple 58...do you know anything about it Rik? Looks like a cool radical car!
Nope... al I have of it.... ANTHONY!!!!! A few more from the same Collection.. This one especially for 00MACK... a Sport Custom
I did not recognize the black and white one being the same as the purple. Thanks And TinWolf took a photo of this one at a Swedish Car show where George Barris was a special guest a few years ago. Unfortunately he did not know how to turn off the flash on his new camera... Still a great photo... Hirohata Merc on the grass with 53 Caddy Sombrero hubcaps!!!
The Gaunce 55 Buick had over 400 hrs of leather carving and coloring to go with the gold naugahyde upholstery. TwoChops
