MA-based Fran Bannister, with his brother,Ralph, got into rodding and racing just after WWII(after Fran returned from being stationed in Bakersfield,CA) The Bannister Brothers, along with a small handful of other like-minded individuals, helped start the New England rodding scene. (As described on display.) New England Dragway-Epping,New Hampshire 2008.

Autofocus, thanks for those photos. That was always one of my favorite weekends while I was at IRP.

  5. I raced against that old ChickenHawk at Muncie too many times. He cleaned my clock more than once. I saw Ted at Indy a few years back when I think it was the 50th Anniversary of the US Nationals. He still is a tough competitor. Here 's wishing Ted and (hopefully) the ChickenHawk a speedy recovery.

Red Fox, this was the best sounding blown 6 EVER!!, I'm sure any Aussie that witnessed it will agree. Thanks for posting it.

Old Angelo - what a top bloke. I was hitch hiking to Castlereagh for the 1974 Nationals and he and his brother picked me up. We got to the gate and the official waved us through (no pit passes back then) and it saved me a bunch of money. I stayed overnight on the floor of the canteen building. I woke up at sunrise when something moved under me (it was a red bellied black snake - mucho poisonous). I got up in one move and hopped out the door. Never forget that.

The blown six powered FJ made way for a blown and injected Hemi powered Torana and like the Old Chicken Hawk, Angelo's time came nearly right here when he blew the crankshaft out of the bottom of it.

This is for humor purposes only:

Dick Cheney must be bummin' right now. I suspect this is his favorite drag car of all time.

I'm sincerely sorry for the loss of such a cool historic car. I hope his local car community will do a barn raising kind of thing to get another one going.

HarleyGene, I'm sure we crossed paths a few times...after all, I was at IRP for 15 years. Remember the big guy in the golf car?

The only Anglia coupes ever made by FoMoCo were the utes that were produced in Australia so this one has to be a phantom.

I saw on Speed Channel awhile back that Bill Goldberg, former wrestler and host of Bullrun, bought one of the remaining Lawman Mustangs at Barrett Jackson.

Looks to me that it started life as a 'glass '34 Chevy coupe made to fit a 'glass' Anglia front end. Nice job though.

Here are some of my favorite shots. I love panning shots because you get the sense of speed and that's what this thread is all about--motion.

    REQUEST:

Does anybody have any photos of the Maylower Altered? It was painted up as the moing company. I only seen it once and that was at Indy in 1964. I think it was a 34 Ford.

One more request, anybody that has any photos of York U.S. 30 Dragwat in York, Pa. could you PLEASE post them?

    Thanks,

    Plum

I have some of my car at York posted in the album on my profile. I know I have more of other cars and events, if/when I find them, I'll post them.

Some of my dad, the car was first built by Jungle Jim he ran a couple of races in it then built his 68 chevy II. These were shot @ Suffolk Raceway circa 1968.

A little bragging my dad is being inducted into the Little Guys Nationals Hall of Fame this weekend @ VA. Motorsports Park. Check out SuffolkRacewayReunion.com.

Thanks for the Pete Robinson pics.

A couple of things that I find interesting in those shots - Pete had a device/dam in front of the air inlet for the injector - very odd.

The throttle linkage is a straight shaft, not a cable. I don't know if that's conventional for the period.

Pete had a shell inside the roll cage similar to the titanium shields modern TF cars have.

The Wooden push bumper appears to push directly against the frame - no push bar ?

Thank you for the pics. magnificent history!

There actually was an incident where a bird flew into the injector causing engine damage. The plate was purportedley designed to prevent another incident. Enderle should have changed the mickname of their injector from bug catcher to bird catcher, eh?

So...what is the deal with the engine in Snows car? It's not an engine that I'm familiar with,or at least right away.
Looks like a big chev. at a glance but when you look closer the heads are weird, square valve covers and plugs under the exhaust.

Anyone have pictures of Joe Law's A/C dragster or top gas dragster from 67-71. He ran out of div 1, won div a couple of times and won indy in 67. Thanks!
