Sam Barris after ditching that car building nonsense and moving back to Sacramento to be a respectable citizen:
this has been a fun week on the HAMB, two survivor cars and this Kustom thread. Here is another Kustom for the mix. Anyone remember the owner or where it was built?
Where do ya think it was from? LOL This 56 Merc was built by Monego Auto body of Clifton N.J. for Julian Mazzuca who was a member of the well known Drivin Deuces car Club of Lyndhurt N.J.
Thats really funny! In the Custom Cars, June 60 issue it says that the car belonged to a guy named Kenny Peters. Oddly enough, its one of three magazines that ended up in my shop somehow, getting trashed.
---------------------------------------------------------- Probability Larry Crose sold the Chev to Kenny Peters.
I just ran that $4,200 price through the inflation calculator. That's equal to $30,000 in 2008. That $4,200 was a big number in those days.
He still had his hand in things. My good friend thats gone now grew up in Carmichael and when he was a kid got his bike painted by Sam.
From the Barry Mazza Collection... Lyle Lake in his Buick... I love this photo of the Kopper Kart. The car on the drive way to the Barris Shop, and the Truck and Bus in the background... so nice. George Cerny's shop truck... With flames And Farmer posted this one of the car on the salt... George Barris 1941 Buick in front of the Barris shop...
When I built my 57 ford I wrote down and saved its cost list. Cost to put a 54 Chevy grille in 57 Ford in 1960 new repro parts
I have always had a soft spot for 35-36 Fords... especially the very early style customs. Not sure whats going on with the grille. Headlights look to be 39 Chevy) molded to the fenders. And it looks like the drivers light sits much higher than the passenger side? Black wall high stance... early 40's photos most likely. Flipped bumper, 40 Ford headlights set in the front fenders, running boards remove... They where not all attractive... These photos showed up on ebay a few years ago. The where scanned negatives. I enlarged them a bit and made them positive in Photoshop... they are not perfect. But I really like the feel of them. This was my favorite with the palm trees in the back. Chopped top...
Two color questions: 1. Can anyone identify the color of the purple '58 (the one with the doll)? Disclaimer: I absolutely swear I have no interest in the doll. 2. Would it look right for an earlier '50s custom ('38 Chevy taildragger with a white carson top), or too bright? I'm trolling for colors for the '38. Also, this thread needs to stay up top!!! Thanks, Steve
Yes, this photo shows the Chuck deWitt's shobox by Barris with 1953 License plate tags on it. TRJ photo
These three photos are of a 36 Ford Phaeton with Oregon plates. The date on them is 1942. Quite amazing that the style of this car (with exception of the most likely folding and none streamlined top) is so much similar to what happend in California in the early 40's. Considering that there where no magazines out there. Perhaps the car was bought in California, or the builder visited CA and got inspired with the looks of the early customs there. Its all there. Nash grille, low mounted 1939 Chevy? headlights. DeSoto Ripple bumpers, fender skirts, ripple disk hubcaps and door handles removed...
Excellent thread........Anyone able to identify this ? OR HAVE ANY OTHER PICS .......Rear shot would be of interest.
Hey Rik; Great stuff as always. Got any pics of Tommy the Greek's 36 tub with the duvall and no boards ?
