Today Unclescooby hooked me up with this vintage altered wheel base 28-29 model A roadster. It is pretty rough but I really liked it. It was built in 58 and ran in northern Ohio. it has had about eleventy twelfth and a half different engines in it, but it was raced all the way into the early 70's. Supposedly doing 150 MPH in the quarter at least once. Then it was retired and sat outside for ALONG time, although still very restorable. The only real recognizable thing that will be able to confirm this car from pictures, is the smaller hoop welded to the top of the roll bar. This was put there to lift the car on and off the trailer with a fork lift. So look through your pics for that small "hoop" on top. Anyone have any pics of it????????????

I'm thinking a blown and injected nailhead in its future.....

That second hoop should get someone's attention.

  3. I can't help with the history, but it is a neat car. I was curious though, how many is eleventy twelfth and a half equal to?:D

I can't help with identifying the car, but I do remember seeing it racing at Quaker City back in the 60's. That altered wheelbase and loop rollbar make it unique from the other cars of the time.

[IMG]That original roll bar looks a lot like a Lyndwood item, wonder if there are other parts that may have been ordered from the catalog. That tonneau cover is a nice piece of work, bet it was a nice car in its day. Don't do anything crazy until you do some research on the car, old race cars need special attention. Glad you plan to save it.

The eBay auction mentions the original builder, so there must be photos and lots of info still available, get that stuff now.

Heres what it said in the Ebay listing:

This is a 1928 Ford Model A Roadster altered drag car from the 1950's, 1960's, and 1970's. It is not a coupe with the top cut off. The car was built by "Wild Bill" Schulke sometime in the late 1950's and run through 1975 in Northern Ohio. The car ran a variety of engines over the years as Bill owns a salvage yard and ran whatever struck him that season. Some of the engines were a Ford 406 and C6, a Chevy 283 and powerglide, a Ford 302, and lastly a 1963 Buick 445

Heres what MrGasser wrote in the original post:
The guy who owns it built it with his buddy in '64, raced until '69, and has been setting outside ever since, behind his barn!

...homemade, custom rectangular tube frame, real Bell Auto dropped tube axle with friction shocks and suicide spring mount, real American's, (no front brakes), '49 Merc rearend on Merc steel wheels w/ recap Goodyear pie-crust wall slicks, center steer, with a (F.E.D.) steering box and butterfly wheel that he "ordered from California", but couldn't remember the brand...

...originally ran a 3 X 2, 406 Ford, but switched it out for a dual-quad Nailhead...has an aluminum cover over the passenger compartment, with part of a bubble that resembles a aircraft canopy for a windscreen...driver sets between passenger compartment and trunk area...center steer...

Eleventy twelfth and a half is to engines what a buck two-sixty-forty is to dollars.

Here's a photo that Skywolf posted on another thread. This car has to be a close cousin of your car....
