Yes sir,you are so right! I'd walk 20 miles in waist-deep snow barefoot in plaid pants just to stand in her shadow! She's one "decades-senior" to me chick I'd love to orbit around! What was the super huge "police cruiser" carburetor that Andy would tote over to Goomer to fix? It was huge?!
One of the best shows ever. My favorite. There's an episode where James Best(the Sheriff on Dukes of Hazzard)is a local the becomes a big C & W singer gutair player. He come back into town in a Mercedes 300 SL roadster.
did you know that ellie walker was the oldest daughter on Father Knows Best before she was on andy. What about my 3 sons when one of them rebuilt that roadster it was an A I believe.
Can someone photo shop the picture on the 2nd page of this thread of Aunt Bea's '55 Sunliner banging a U-turn in the middle of downtown Mayberry? We need to make that droptop more H.A.M.B friendly. You know, bubble skirts, lowered, lake pipes,a Gene Winfield type fade paint job, Aunt Bea in a leather jacket........ I know somone out there can fix that ride. Maybe we could chop the windshield on the '38 and turn it into a tail dragger too.
Here's a pic from Universal Studio's back lot from 1965.Kinda shows you how movies and TV were made.Mayberry is right next to the King Kong lot? Barn would've went nuts with crowd control? At least Gomer didn't have to travel far to go to boot camp? Funny to see the highways and size comparison. http://images.ehowa.com/universalsbacklot.jpg

That's the "Return of the Guitar Player" episode. I can't embed this one... Part 1 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K7kYzNGASuw Part 2 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zpu6u5oTfCg Part 3 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mJ_FJWQOevk
Yep... ol' Andy hooking up with Helen Crump (Aneta Corsaut) was some real TV Magic alright. Not sure if it'd happen in real life LOL... she's still outta my league.
I live in North Carolina near the "so called" Mayberry. Mt. Pilot in the series is actually Pilot Mt. North Carolina. I live between there and Charlotte. I have seen many of the actors at "reunion" special appearances over the years and my favorite has to be Otis. At these appearances he could be drunk as a skunk and make me think he really had a drinking problem and then instantly be normal. He was a cool guy. The casting for that program is probably the best in the history of TV.
My favorite has to be the episode where Andy asks Goober to watch the courthouse while he is away on business. A customer at Wally's Service Station wants Goober to fix his car, but Goober can't leave. So they disassemble the car and reassemble it inside the courthouse in Andy's office. I believe it was a Rambler if memory serves.... Pete Richmond, VA
In one episode when "Bobby Fleet And His Band With A Beat" passed thru town, they were travelling in a stretched late 40s or early 50s limo, a DeSoto or maybe Chrysler I think. Seemed kind of strange since Ford supplied vehicles for the show for years. But then Goober also reassembled Gilley's Rambler in the court house to try to fix a noise it was making. Goober had been left in charge of the court house and couldn't leave until Andy got back from Mt. Pilot or Raleigh or somewhere. Ellie Walker was doll, but it didn't hurt your eyes any looking at Barbara Eden either. Or as Andy said from Floyd's Barber Shop while watching her get off the bus, "No sir, that shore ain't a boy!" If you want to see Andy Griffith play a character that's the complete opposite of kindly Sheriff Andy, find a copy of A Face In The Crowd. A lot of big name actors and actresses in early roles and a few cool old cars too.
I had heard the town Mayberry was patterened after was Mt. Airey, N.C. It's in the same area and sounds like Mayberry. Hal Smith(Otis) did a ton of voice over work in cartoons and commercials.
Without giving too much away, it was a movie ahead of its time. I think it kind of vanished for a lot of years because commercial network TV wasn't too keen about broadcasting it.
The actor that played Floyd suffered a stroke... They worked around it for him. You'll notice in his later episodes that you never see him walking. I've got the entire series on DVD, I love it!
Floyd had a stroke. That's why he was usually sitting and never moved his left arm. But he still knew the art of timing and knew how to pitch his line, always straight faced.
Mt. Airy indeed. Hot Heads, the Hemi specialists, are right down the road at Low Gap, NC. The Woods Brothers of NASCAR fame were just over the border in Stuart, VA. Ronnie Sox was sponsored by Gate City Motors over in Greensboro, the next major city to the East. Lots of car culture in the area. http://www.visitmayberry.com/
"My best to you and yours " Gomer Pyle Note my avitar It was a point in American history when stories were based on human relationships dealing with people in every day life with all its happiness/ faults and a LOT of common sense mixed in, and not having to use special effects/ swear words or sex/porn or anything like that. The joys came from simple things and WE ( you and me) can appreciate that the simple things in life ( friendship and health) are truly a gift. Simple is good. Cob
Give that man a seegar. My home town, Cheney, Kansas was about 1100. I'm the same age as Ron Howard. I always identified with that show. The John Melencamp song "Small Town" speaks to my heart everytime I hear it. Wasn't there an episode where some big shot TV producer comes into town in a custom T-Bird? Like a 62 with the roadster option?
