Standard big block Chevy heads with some unusual fabricated valve covers. I've seen the car in person, the heads are out of the ordinary.

Nicholson was running and winning in S/S Chevies in '59 at San Gabriel and other strips in southern CA.

Its hard to believe just what an incredibly rich resource the HAMB has right here. There would be close to 10,000 images posted here which cover some 80 years of the formation of organised drag racing - too easy to be taken for granted.
Thanks one and all for this continuing look at the very best of this travelling acceleration circus.

The "Green" portion of this team was Don Green who later debuted the Rat Trap. This car later re-surfaced in gold hue and re-dubbed "The Trip." FYI

Jack had two '64 Plymouths back in '64, both named The Jersey Duke. One was a hardtop wedge car and the second a hemi 2DR post model. He later had a '64 N/SS car that he didn't really campaign and was painted in an updated Mr. 5 & 50 paint scheme. I may have a shot of the '64 HT wedge car.

Does anyone know more about Harold Nicholson? Don is better known for his tuning, championships, etc...but the guys who remember Harold claim that he was also a genius...there are also conflicting stories about how he died...heard that it was at Saugus, or San Fernando...but Don Montomery, in an interview with NitroGeezers, said that Harold died in a truck accident...not that it really matters, but would be interesting to set the story straight. He and Don ran some pioneering cars, including the Bantam roadster with the blown 6 (these guys really knew GMC products).

Anyone got more info on Harold?

Thanks, they almost always get it right...I wonder if it was in the Bantam roadster...story from Bryon Stack's Gasser Madness had it that the car was fast but evil-handling, and the Pomona Valley Timing Assocation actually banned it at Pomona until Harold got it to go straight.
