If you are going to built a taildragger out of it ten you should chop the top much more in the back than the front.
If you look at the side window opening you see that the front is smaller than the back. You should chop it so much that the rear of the side window is the same height or smaller than the front.
To get that overall beautifull rear dropped feel.
Perhaps even angle the windshield back a few inches and only chop the windshield 2 inches will do it.

Very nice, what an awesome score.
With your overall plans for the car, your going to have to chop it. It's your car, but I know what you mean about keeping the misses happy, life in the garage is a lot easier!
Keep the progress going and have fun.

I hate those guys who say, " I'll get around to it one day" and never do. I dont want to be one of those guys. "If I cant get into it by this fall, she's going up on the block.

Cleaned shop... Seal coated the body.

Rear springs arrived just as I layed out the front end parts.
All I need is some new spring mounts (here on Thursday) and I can get welding out back. The Challenger Disks should stop it on the spot.

Once I rip the column and stuff out of the donor I can turn to the firewall and make it a smoothie.

I ordered a set from www.ch***isengeneering.com of rear leaf springs. Once installed they didnt give me the drop I wanted so I've added a 2.ch lowering block as well. I'll adjustt pinion angle once the ****** and shaft are in next week. I can then play with the front coils too. I'll be using stock coils cut to size.. old skool style.

    A big Happy day today.

Welded the hangers in, mounted the springs and shackles and bolted down the rear end. I put a pair of 15 inch wheels and rolled it into the sunshine. It was still sitting too high... rolled it back into the shop and undid the rear end.

I made up a set of lowering blocks out of 4 x 2 x .25 x 1.5, welded a lid on it and drilled it out for the spring pin, then made a second cap, welded in a 5/8's bolt though a hole and then welded the boxe closed. In total it gave me 1 3/4 inch more drop. Once the motor and ****** are in and the front end is at ride height, then I'll play with the tires in the back to get it lower yet.

I had my wife snap a picture to give an idea of the present height. I'm 6 foot and I'd like to see it come down another 2 inches for sure.

I still need to fiddle with pinion angle but that will be next week sometime when I've got the drive shaft made.. The trunk lid is mounted but needs ajustment.

My quest for granada drums took me to 2 wrecking yards and then ****o where they quoted me $137.00 each for drums. I told them I didnt want the whole car. NAPA... $107.00 - same manufacture... how interesting. I need to hit more junk yards.

Chop idea for you. Lots more chop in the rear, as Rikster rightly suggested.

Heading to town with a shopping list for some goodies. I should have her on her own front feet today.

In the mean time, I played a little with the front end in photochop to kill some time this morning. Nosed, one piece hood and some extra body lines filled... and a 40 dodge bumper.

Then Next week.... the drive train!

Just my 2 cents...don't chop it. Those fat fender Mopars have such nice flowing lines they just don't need it. Chopping a top should enhance the lines or proportions of the body...you can't do that with that Plymouth...the factory nailed it.

I like the 40 dodge bumper on that, it works well with how the grill shell flows down to a point. If you do a one piece hood could you show a step by step on how you did it? Your 39 is lookin good. later shawn

I read somewhere that to look perfect, the height of the roof should be about 1/3 of the height of the car. These late '30's Mopars came that way from the factory, save yourself lots of work, and DON'T chop it.
