Ok seen lots of pics of early Mercs but not many late fiftes, early sixties..These later Mercs are rare and you just don't see them as often as their big brother Ford but I know there are some around so post em if you got em. I know of at least one Hamber that has a cool 1964 Mercury Monterey Marauder.
That would be getting into the *Super car* thing and away from the Mercs that most guys veiw as good custom material.
Here's the most recent one i could find of mine. I need to take some more current ones. It's changed alot since.
Yes sir...How about a '57 Turnpike Cruiser convertible...one of my top 10 dream cars. Anyone have pix of Gary Childress' kustom '54 Sun Valley? Also nuts about the '55s and '56s...Let's get this thread rollin'...I'm going to look for some pix now.
Not a Merc, but lots of TurnPike cruiser and other various merc stuff goin on it. Check out the pods on the roof. This is my Dad's 57 Fairlane! ( i photoshopped the supremes on it, but he is going to run caps)
My Great Granny had a 64 Montclaire (?) 4 door. Bought it new. Peacock blue (25th anniversary color) with white top. White vinyl interior and TONS of chrome, Even had the Chrome tissue box. It looked like a custom to start with. Police interceptor 390. Great car. Went like stink. Wish I had the forsight to buy it.
Here's a '63 Meteor S-33 that Poncho used to own. He was kind enough to let me use the pic in my ad (I'm selling my Meteor, if any one's interested). I was going to build mine similar to this, 'cept for the color.
Mom and Dad had a 1960 Monterey, When they bought it one of Dad's friends was so jealous that they didn't talk for quite a while. In 1966 They bought a new Colony Park wagon. It had a 390 auto and a posi rear end, oh yeah, it did run. We still have both of them.
Nice but I wanted to see Mercs from the late 50's, early 60's as they seem to be the rare Mercs. Don't get me wrong,,I love the older Mercs but we just don't see many of the later years. For instance in '62 they made less than 10,000 two door hardtops like mine.
I used to own a 64 4 door Park Lane Marauder that my younger brother owns now and now I own my Dads '64 Breezeway Park Lane. It will be getting a mild customization. That's me and my older brother on the hood circa 1968 and my old Marauder
Sweet looking car! I have a grille and a radio delete plate for one of these in my garage gathering dust somewhere
The S-33 Comets are the cousins of the S-22 Falcons with six-cylinders and Dagenham 4-Speed transmissions.
You are SO right about that Meteor. That car is gorgeous, but man they are hard to find! There was a decent '62 2-dr sitting here in Macon, but the guy would never give me a price. That was a couple of years ago, and I suspect he crushed it.
LOL, that's what prompted me to buy the Meteor I got out of the local junkyard. One look at those, and it's like, " I need those!"
If you check out the HAMB Merc Club thread, you'll see quite a few 60's Mercurys. There's lots of pic's of members cars...Do a search.
sure, I run the 1964 plates! I'm real proud of these because they are such a low number for Linn County. "Back in the day" Iowa counties issued plates in January (now they renew your birthday month). People would line up at the county courthouse on Jan 2 trying to get the lowest number they could get. so finding #9 in Linn County for 1964 was pretty cool for me. <sigh> nobody remembers this kind of shit, but I used to make money as a kid just standing in line for people at the Sigourney courthouse. There is a long thread about the law and legalities at http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/...5&highlight=date+of+manufacture+license+plate going strictly by the law, YOM plates are illegal in Iowa. But I've never been hassled.
One of my hometown city police officers told me that I could run 1941 plates on my Chevy as long as I have two plates ( I only have one). I never checked any further. I just assumed that he knew what he was talking about. You can see the front of our 60 Mercury peaking out behind Carmen's shoulder. </sigh>
Several of my buddies in Cedar Rapids Iowa run original year plates. I am told that you can run them if you carry your real plates with you and only if going to events or parades,,,of course everyday is a parade
Here is my '62 Merc. I am looking for some caps for the 14 Ford chrome reverse wheels, if you have any laying around let me know.
