You will never completely respect your car until you see it driven down the road by someone else.

Dont hit your car with a hammer when it looks like you hired a troop of monkeys to do the bodywork.

  4. You can use your cell phone while driving your traditional hot rod only if it has a rotary dial.

The sign in the window of my truck says "Feel free to touch. It's just an old work truck, not a show car."

I'm with you guys on this one. Being a woman who loves hot rods I especially enjoy letting the little girl's sit in mine. I'm hoping to leave an impression and get them hooked early... :D

Otherwise, walk away if you don't have something nice to say.

Don't ask "when are you gonna paint it?" or "When are you gonna finish it" both drive me crazy... it's kinda insulting right?

All the "rules" you posted other than number four are fine, I dont particularly care for little kids and dont really want them anywhere near me/my car/my stuff.

I like all the "Code of Honer Rules" .
The one I really , really hate is the group of assholes that walk by your car and point and make rude comments about your car while you are there but have no idea it's your car ! I respect everyones car at a show because they put their heart and soul into that car . I give the most credit to the guys & gals that did the work themselves instead of paying big money to have someone else do it for them . No matter how it looks I always praise someone for doing it by themselves ! Never ask what color are you going to paint it , that is the very last thing I think of doing . I just want to fix it safe enough so I can safely drive it to have fun ! That is the whole idea , right ? I will always stop to help a fellow rodder that is sitting on the side of the road . I always have some hand tools in my car to do repairs and if they need a ride someplace , I will be happy to do that too !
I really love the small kids at shows that stop and ask about my car . Now that is the best reward that can happen . I will take the time to answer every question they ask and if they want to sit in the drivers seat , I will gladly help them . That will be the thing they will never forget . The smile on the little ones faces is worth it all !

I think I could get along with Retro Jim pretty well.

The first listed pretty well go along with my own feelings.

I'd add, If you have to borrow a tool more than twice you need to buy your own. Although having borrowing rights with your buddy so you both don't have to buy the same spendy and seldom used tools works fine. In one shop I worked in, If I borrowed a tool I left my car keys in the guys tool box in place of the tool. It made sure I got the tool back to him in a timely maner.

Don't sit and rap your pipes at a show every half hour just so spectators can hear the "cool" pipes and want to come check your car out.

It's a car show and people are going to walk up to your car, turn the damned car alarm off and that "step back from the car alarm is only cute once and not 100 times in an afternoon.

The majority of other people at the event really don't want to hear your booming sound system all afternoon unless you are at a sound system sound off.

Don't ask "What's it worth". Unless you have a wad of cash in your pocket and are seriously looking to buy. There seems to be a seperate hobby now of people who just go around asking what a vehicle is worth with no other interest in it.

The actions of any tag alongs that you take to an event are your responsiblity. Make sure that your dufus brotherinlaw knows that he is expected to respect other peoples property and watch his kids and 32 Ford fenders are not kiddy slides. I have one nephue that my kids will not take anywhere with them as they can never trust what he will do next.

Lastly, don't set up camp around and between the cars so that no one can walk around them or it makes people uncomfortable to get too close. And keep your trash and clutter picked up.

    Helping others is best.

I had a fuel pump go out on my Brothers '33 Plymouth once. A man that I did not know stopped and asked if he could help. We assessed the situation I had some fuel line he had a five gallon can of gas with about 1-1/2 gallons in it. I made a gravity feed setup and made it to my destination about 3 miles down the road. He just give me his address and said return the can when you get a chance. I filled the can up and returned it to his house the next day.

Oh and by the way he had a beautiful old Packard that looked stock on the outside but had upgraded running gear. What a nice guy.

I'm with you on the sound system deal... At Santa Maria there was a guy blaring his tunes as loud as possible even while the bands were playing. I thought it was pretty inconsiderate.
