Hey guys- I'm new to the HAMB and can't wait to start posting some pics of my new 33 project. This is a great board. Forgive me- I'm new and this is the first board I have ever joined- really I don't believe I've ever joined anything outside of the NRA. Anyway- I took on a new project- I posted a couple pics under my profile. I now need help. I'm looking for a great old school mechanic in Southern CA to help me dial this car in. I am finished squishing the Clay Smith built motor that drhotrod used to own into the chassis- coupled it to a 3sp with Mitchell overdrive etc. I must have spent about 100 hours on this girl. The chassis is all gas welded aluminum and is pretty cool- I'm still trying to get more history on it. It used to belong to Jim Latin and Bob Meigs who I haven't been able to find. Building Harleys for over 20 years has taught me too many tricks on getting the ride smoothed out perfectly from a long build and I'm looking for an old school "tuner" proficient in 3x2 set ups, timing, magnetos, tuning etc.... I will be driving her long distances and want someone to look over my work and tune who knows what they are doing. Any help would be greatly appreciated. If you are into 2 wheels, you can check my site out at www.uschopper.com for some vintage boardtrack looking creations that I have been involved in the last 5 years.... Thanks again, Rick Krost
Welcome Rick, love ya ride man. There's a few old salts here who post on www.landracing.com . They might be able to help you out about getting in touch with Jim Latin, otherwise go and join up yourself. Most are helpful.Lots of guys who can tune a flathead blindfolded. cheers
Nice- thanks mate. I'll have to do that. Whats goin on with #32 there... looks awfully fun. Hey- ever been to Harley City in Brunswick VIC?? My buddy Tom Yeo is the sales manager over there- I noticed you were in Melbourne.... Great guy - they have a great collection of old bikes etc.... Best to ya - Rick
Welcome abord Rick! All I can say is...Damn! you build some fine bikes! Apply that discipline to the cars and they will be equally as fine. As far as the HAMB, it's addictive. Some of the best people you will ever talk to here.
Nice bikes. I went to Mooneyes Yokohama in 06 and saw a lot of similarly styled bikes. Almost converted me....almost Welcome Pete
Hey Mike, Thanks much! These cars sure take a lot of space in the garage! I can't wait to get this******** the road where she belongs- started on some simple exhaust last night. Then to find a good tuner in town if possible. Thanks again, Rick
Common- come over to the dark side! It's fast and loud as well! One of my clients just came back from Bonny last weekend and got 150+ before losing the oil cap... one gear left still..... all on bone stock drivetrain in one of our chassis kits... we should have 3 bikes at speed week total later this week- I'm pumped! Hey say hello to my buddy Tom Yeo at Harley City if you see him- I haven't been in touch for about 6 months.... he's the sales manger. Best, Rick
Hey Rick, Tom's been on TV here a few times,he's got some sick Crockers in there. Next time i'm in the area i'll tell him you said hi. Love the bikes you build man,i saw an article on Bikernet a couple years ago. I'm guessing thats you ridin' the black boardtracker#1 and I'm thinking, will that same model fit me?I'm 6ft4. Post some more pics of the '33 on the boardtrack thread. cheers
Thanks- I'd appreciate it if you said hi for me. Yep thats me on the bike- but I'm 6'1 and shrinking~! Theres a pic of Keith Ball on it who is 6'5" and he makes it look like a toy! He is building our new more authentic boardtrack chassis currently on www.bikernet.com under "5 ball factory racer"... it's one that can layout better for you long type folk! We added more wheelbase and the frame is taller to accept the square tanks- a natural for the big boys. The new owner of that black bike is super cool and about 6'2. He just had it at Bonny 2 weeks ago and clocked over 150 before losing the oil cap with one extra gear left- I can't wait to see what she does at Bub's. It's a bone stock drivetrain with taller gearing. I'm hoping to have 3 of our chassis' running at Bonny under different builders. Steve Huff, Berry Warlaw, and the black bike were talking about- hopefully everyone makes it- but you know how these things go.... one thing leads to another and then no one makes it! I'm really getting into this speed thing....
