Is ANYONE getting tickets for loud pipes?

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by Groucho, Jun 1, 2009.

  1. There's a ton of jalopy style cars running around here, where the police are fairly strict, that have NO baffles in their headers whatsoever. Most these cars don't have ***les or current registration, or even floors:D. So, is ANYONE getting tickets?

    No ***LES? No current REGISTRATIONS?

If they're not getting tickets they damn sure should be. That means the miserable s*** have NO INSURANCE either, doesn't it?

    Ticket?
Same as always - anyone they don't like gets one.

  4. Exactly. One guy drove his roadster to Paso once (200+ miles each way), and Viva TWICE (300+ miles each way)with no ***le, registration OR DRIVERS LICENSE! All with NO MUFFLERS

If my pipes were too loud, that would mean my car would be running! That would be great!

been driving open headers for about 4 years now up tp 200 miles a week and have never gotten a ticket or even stopped for it.

  8. HA...
one of my lowrider customers just got a ticket for loud pipes on his straight six. he was creeping over some railroad tracks at about zero throttle angle when the chump cop with a thing for mexicans in bombs railed him. then made him open everything to check for hydraulics.

    it happens.

I was afraid to take my Lark around the block with no plate/insurance. I want to do the right thing, but I could'nt help a victory lap.

  11. WOW, I haven't heard about checking for hydraulics since the 70's!

Most of those sloppy cars have worn out motors and or no compression because they are just s****. A sbc with 7.5-1 at idle is no louder than a harley and we are pretty used to that noise.

  13. i got a ticket for loud mufflers about 10 years ago in my 67 camaro,it was a stock american thunder flowmaster series kit, stupid cop..

  14. Arizona, the loud pipes gang seems to be getting away with it.

A pal got busted for driving his 70's era pickup to the transmission shop sans registration and insurance.

    $1000. fine.

I currently hold 15 excessive noise tickets from Monterey, Ca PD. That damn tunnel just begs for it!

They went on a loud pipe ticket bonanza in Newark, DE last year. Mostly as a result of a few whiny yuppies and the excessively loud bikes that cruise Main Street (we get it, your new Harley is sweet, you don't need to rev the piss out of it). They busted some ghetto boys with ******** stereos and a few muscle cars too, but generally nobody that wasn't asking for it. Driving habit has a lot to do with it

So if the pipes are loud and you get a ticket, that makes the cop a chump?

  21. My O/T driver has some turbo mufflers and short pipes from a mustang stuck on it (because the right exhaust with a cat is big $$$) and if you romp the throttle it's pretty loud, but I don't do that a lot. Probably the only really dumb time was after a line crew stopped traffic to hang a power line and of course flags me down as the first car they stop... right on the main drag car lot row. So when they let us go I put the hammer down and wound it out the first couple gears.

Otherwise though, so far, so good -

since they started air conditioning cop cars they most likely have their windows up. I have not had a ticket in any of my cars since. and we have a lot of Harleys running straight pipes. and they do not seem to be getting tickets.

Around my area, no registration means instant impound. To remove your car from impound, you have to pay the back fees and show proof of insurance. No license and it's a 30 day impound which adds up to over $650 the last time I checked. The cities in the South Bay have full time traffic enforcement officers.

I love open headers like the next one BUT when you run open headers you are asking for the man to give you a ticket !
Now as for people driving their cars with no INSURANCE and bad tags , I hope you get caught and you should go to jail and have your hot rod towed away ! That is just plain wrong and I don't care what you think of me but if that dumb *** with no insurance hits you and puts you into the hospital or even worst , get the picture . That is why we have laws for our protection . That is one of the big reasons we have high insurance rates ! When uninsured driver get into accidents WE ALL LOOSE !

A test ride down the corner and back is one thing but not a joy ride to car shows ! There is just no excuse for doing that ! You deserve what you get when it come to **** like that !

I payed my $280 to DMV, the lose my paperwork. My ***le is in the works, need CHP verification NOW that the body is on the frame:rolleyes:. Im on a moving p***, no ***le or REG. I have insurance though through Grundy. I got my CHP inspection in a week or two.

I have only been driving my car for about a week and a half and ive been p***ed by MANY cops without a second glance. And if one more non-car person asks "arent you worried about the cops? I would be" or tells me to put some kind of turn-down on my exhaust to keep the "black stuff" off my paint, ill lose it.

    When are they playing?

    Sorry, couldn't resist!

I have open lakes pipes, no hood, no fenders and no tickets.

Probably because the car doesn't look like it's likely to kill anyone, has seat belts and I drive it pretty responsibly.

Had an episode of SPEEDERS on TV recently with a dude in an A roadster spinning his tires in front of a cop. The guy had a suspended license, no insurance and his reg. was expired... what a DA.

    Cool roadster, though.
