I got a ticket for modified exhaust and too noisy about 1977 in my GTO and was happy to get it considering I just did a smokey burnout through first and second gear to impress my buddies after leaving autoshop. yes... a school zone

cops should have drug my 18 year old *** out of the car and beat me with thier billyclubs.

I THINK he was saying the cop was a chump because he did not like Mexicans in bombs....

If that is why the cop was messing with him, HE IS RIGHT.

... don't know if it is this way anymore but here in sunny California you used to get 95 decibles @2500 RPM before you got a ticket. I almost got one but the cops hand held SUN tach said 2500 and my dash mounted Sun Tach said 2300 when the decibles hit 95.

that was in a 4 banger with 2" pipe and a short gl***pack.

I tend to agree with the Harley comment. Even cammed up, my uncorked SBC just isnt that obnoxious.

I will drive a car on short runs with no registration, and even a little more when I am feeling lucky...

BUT I wont pull out of my driveway without insurance....

No reg and bad things happen = a ticket,,, ****s, but really no big deal...

No insurance and bad things happen = You loose everything...

Never got a ticket for loud pipes, and judging from my two son's cars, and their lack of tickets, it ain't a big deal here...

To me, if your car is loud, it better be damn good looking or it annoys the **** out of me. If you are going to call attention to yourself with loud pipes, at least be something good to look at. Otherwise, put a cap on it and keep the noisy **** to yourself - that group includes ALL motorcycles, most especially fat *** Harleys.

my buddy nick has fender well headers, with the collectors on the insides and they run to a full exhaust with flowmasters, BUT his header caps spend more time on the floor of his car than on the headers, he got stopped once BUT it was because he jumped on it off a light, ( pretty much stock 454 tunnel ram dual quads)

sad part is its not much louder than our friends chevelle with 3.5 inch exhaust with flowmasters...

on my 65 olds im running 2 1/4 pipe from motor ( single exhaust) to y pipe under the middle of the car, to dual tail pipes with no mufflers, car gets more looks and thumbs up than it does negitive attention, i dont think iv been stop for loud exhaust, since.. uhh.. 2004??

Been kinda worried about this. I guess as long as i stay off the go-fast pedal, it should stay quiet.

I drive my car everywhere! and ive been pulled oever a few times for loud pipes. Mind you i do have gl***packs, 20 inchers, so its loud but not ungodly loud. Never gotten a ticket though. Good so far. I have always been concerned with the fact that i shaved the mirrors, wipers, and other goodies that are necessary! ahaha! they never say a word though!

I really don't see the need to run open headers on the street. I would much rather hear a mellow rumble than the barking of short open pipes. I rode to Beatersville just over a week ago in Carbon Guy's T coupe and even with earplugs I had a ringing in my ears until about Tuesday night. Craig intended to have baffles in the pipes but simply ran out of time before the event.

And lemme add that nothing sounds worse than a stock motor with no mufflers. It's just ****ing NOISE. I'm a performance enthusiast, and try to make most my cars have a bunch more power than they came with. A "built" motor un-corked is music. Stock is just NOISE. Last year at Mooneyes open house, a BUNCH of "rat" type cars were leaving, obviously on the throttle and couldn't spin a 4 inch wide tire in a car that weighs HALF of the car the motors came out of. THAT was funny. How do you guys take Hemis, Nailheads, and Rocket motors, and get em to run so ****ing lousy in a car that weighs LESS than 2000 pounds?:D

I drive two of the loudest cars around my area, no tickets, but they can't possibly be as annoying to people than all the diesel trucks rattling around blowing smoke everywhere.

When I was young I was getting tickets for loud pipes every week. Now that I old they just look and smile when they hear my pipes. I told my wife last year after driving 350 plus miles I think I'm gonna take along ear plugs next trip , can't hear my self talk over the sweet loud noise my 37 creates .

Unless he is rapping the pipes before, during or after crossing the tracks I can't see a reason for getting a ticket for loud pipes. Just because the cop ***umes that he may have loud pipes and then makes him rap them off shouldn't be cause for a ticket nor should be driving while of a different ethnic background.

My daily is probably as loud as most of the fart piped Hondas and a lot of the guys running straights. Extremely burned out gl*** packs behind one of those tired 350's with pipes exiting before the rear tires but unless I gun it at a stop light or rap the pipes I have little chance of being stopped. It still is a lot quieter than the straight piped Harleys that go by my house a dozen at a time though.
