Drag racer and all around nice guy, Neil O'Kane, finished the resto on the 99Jr. car about a year ago (and debuted it at last August's West Coast Nationals), but I'm still so stoked when I see it. I'm not sure if it's my favorite A roadster ever, but it just may be!

He had it at the Goodguys Get-Together this past weekend and I was lucky enough to get to do a feature on it for the August issue of the Gazette.

Here are a few of the outtakes.

Exquisite, one of my favorite cars these days. Thinking about that Ford 'box between my legs behind a potent Jimmy makes me nervous!

Great car with great history. Thanks for the pics

  9. Hey Kirk, any chance you have pics of the cowl top with the fabric off? I would like to see how the windshield base/cowl top was done. The way the fabric snaps on so smooth, looks *****in.

I don't. We were pretty rushed on this shoot.

I can tell you that it's a ***** to push around a corner with the locker rear end.

301 cubic inches was a decent sized mill in those days. The overhead cam, 12 valve Horning head made great use of a rack of Stromberg 97s before the switch to one of the earliest of Hilborn’s injection systems, and it ran strong and solid on 60-70% doses of Nitro. Venolia pistons were used along with a Vertex Magneto and a fuel pump sourced from an aircraft. With a curb weight of 1,400lbs, it easily reached speeds of 130.

Thanks - best thing since sliced bread.

BTW the adapter bellhousing is a cyclone product. One sold on that auction site a while ago for $280.

Neil has a '52(?) Chevy with a L6 that he uses for towing. I'll have to ask if there are plans to recreate the old one.

I always wonder what that thing is on the steering wheel... looks like an old bicycle chain ring with the "points" ground off.

seen it a couple times but never heard it run... does it run?
