Who is experianced in finding a place to stay? Is it to late to make plans to go? Is camping out an option? I have an opprotunity to make the trip and was wondering what my options were.

I've been the passed few years and by now it seems like rooms in Wendover may be hard to come by; however every time we have gone camping has been our choice option and there is always room to camp at the bend. Figure its the only way to experience bonneville.

It's not to late if your camping... Bend in the road is where to camp...

Jeff, I'll give you a call tomorrow. If we didn't already have (possibly) five people in our hotel room, I'd certainly offer you a spot. Sorry
Hopefully someone will have a room to share with ya...

Also, I'll keep an eye out here, to see if someone needs to cancel a reservation. Seems like it happens every year.

thanks for the offer, if there was room.

Looks good for the bend in the road. Is it "family friendly"? not really an issue, just that my 12 year old has expressed alot of interest lately.

camping at roads end is the experience you want but I just got a room at the Red Garter about a week ago.. seems they weren't sure if they'd be in business after the first of the year so they weren't taking any reservations for speedweek, but they just did here a few weeks ago and the price is good.. try them if there's any left, good luck ph# 800-982-2111 or 775-664-2111

Roads end sure looks like the way to go, i've never camped there , but it sure looks like a cool place to be and it is only about half a mile from the entrance to the 'race course 'area of the salt .
Any way you work it , be sure to go ! it is something every hotrodder should do at least once .Good luck and enjoy[take pics and post later]

  10. Bend in the road gets pretty rowdy, I camp up the hill a ways. Been going for 10 years now never had a problem out there, for the most part it's good evening entertainment.

After the first few days most of the spectators have gone home and rooms in town should open up.Also you may look at Landracing.com for people who give up on being ready in time, posting notice of the rooms they reserved being open.

Anyone have any pictures of the bend in the road they could post?

  15. I have camped and I have gotten rooms. I have a room this year, but camping was fun. Not too roudy at all. The only bummer about camoing is it gets VERY HOT down there, nice to have a shower and AC in the room :D I know, I know...I'm a puss!!!

If you are willing to trade off comfort and convenience for adventure and comradery, the planning cycle can start about a couple days before the drive to the salt. Of course, you will need a little camping gear, but it's always fun.

Thanks for the heads up RDR, we called yesterday and were able to book a room for 3 nights.

  20. The big Pilot Truck Stop in the center of Wendover has much nicer showers. You will be going in to Wendover (About 4-5 miles) in the evenings anyway for the impromptu car show at the State Line and possibly for dinner at the many resturants.

If you go to see the free rod show at the casino, August is the time to go. If you want to see good racing, and plan late for the year, look in to the September meet. Much smaller crowd, easy to book rooms, cooler temperatures, very good racing. Google USFRA for information.

I would not have an issue with a 12 year old of mine at the bend in the road daytime or evening.

How do you know you aren't one of the five Nick was talking about??:D

You are more then welcome to use our shower in the evenings. There usually is a line though.:D

Few more of the BEND. A little windy sometimes, but the place to be. Always a party.
