I know I am old but I do not recall an airport across from the old Irwindale racetrack. What year was this? I know there was an old track across from the now Irwindale speedway that was closed in the early 60's and moved to the last site on the now Miller brewing property. But I don't remember an airport. If you have any more info please share I am interested.

 

I believe he was merely referencing the 'Dale's action, not saying the picture was from there.
It's from neither Irwindale, the hills are wrong for the first and too close for the second.

That other track, looking east accross Irwindale Blvd. from the first 'Dale, was a go kart track.

 

This photo was taken at Half Moon Bay, southwest of San Francisco. The City is directly beyond the hill at upper center.

In the '70s that hangar in the background housed a couple P-51 Mustangs and a couple F8F Bearcats owned (and raced at Reno) by the late John Herlihy.

You are correct in interpreting my post. San Gabriel Valley bares no resemblence to the hills of Nor-Cal. I was simply making a statement that the Henry J depcited here served as an example of the type of Henry J gassers that frequented Irwindale

Henry J's were made to be gassers.

 

I remember another racer out of Anchorage Ak. Darren Snelson, he used to race a cool little Anglia, both him & Lunsford were hard chargers in their day.
