  2. Here is the current state of the "Sinister". Just fired the motor for break in, and now on to the body work and brakes. The goal is to be driving it by the end of July first of August.

Hey TKEBH964, It's neat to see you're going with the wood structure! I like working with the wood and used it in my '29 Custom PU, modifying it of course due to the chop/channel of the body.
Looking for more from you, so..........
    keep on keepin' on!

    29nash,

Dad ordered the piece of wood we are missing in the rear sill. Things are kind on hold till it comes in. I want to have all the pieces mocked up before I set the door posts in their final spot. In the mean time we have had everything clamped down and it is surprisingly solid. The couple pieces that were a little bowed are a lot straighter now and the car just looks more proportioned than it did when I took pictures a couple weeks ago.

Scored a wagon roof off of who knows what (it was already cut off of the car) that we are going to use as a filler panel. So we are going to use a wood/metal structure of some sort that mates to the wood for the rest of the body.

  5. Now that is a Hot Rod Tudor, great stance, love those headers..... I usually hate chevy headers. :D:eek:

Damn, that looks so fine! Sure makes me wish we didn't have to run fenders, up here. Oh, and I'm so pleased to see a Chevy rad shell, still on there.:D

I like the name "Sinister" Wish I was that far along on mine, That is gonna be a fun ride. and I too like the headers. keep going you dont need no stinking breaks  (OH BRAKES)...ghost

  8. Thanks you guys! The headers I built on an idea one day of making the car look like an old race car. I bought some lake pipe headers to build, but wanted to be different, so I put my imagination to work one night and walla! I built some baffels that I put up inside the 3" pipe I flared to look like the old trumpet tips, so that I could run them just like they look. Not all that loud but sound really throaty. That is also why I am running two two's. To make the car just alittle different from everyone else which either run a four barrel, or tri power.

Well, we just got the car last week,... totally new to this. As you're aware, it's a '29 Chevy sedan. We've obviously got plans to chop it, channel it, etc... I'm sure we'll have ton's of questions about stuff so hopefully you guys will be able to help out... Ghost, your car looks awesome, got any advice? Thinking of changing all suspension on ours, possible coilovers in rear & leaf in the front... open to any suggestions/comments. Thanks a lot!

34Toddster, how did you lower the front suspension? Change the leaf springs? Put the axle above the leaf springs? Use a dropped front end?
I'm putting a sbc in a my 34 chevy sedan and I'd like to know what works & what doesn't. I'd like quite a low stance, but not dragging on the deck. Maybe 2 to 4". 'll be starting with my mock-up shortly and should have a better idea then of the exact drop.
There is so much info out there on the Ford transverse leaf spring front end, but not that much on the Chevy parallel leaf spring front end. I have a Jag IRS for the rear, but I dont want top run IFS up front because it will be exposed & it' just not the same. I do plan on using the Jag front disks and calipers though.
Good thread for us Chevy builders.. keep it going

STEVE I used an old Chevy truck front axle and a local guy dropped it 6 inches many moons ago. I also built a new from spring main leaf and reversed the eye for around 6.5 inches of drop(I think). MAS also will make a Tubular front axel for you for about $350.. US It also has a Vega cross steer and that is about it. The rear I bought Chassis Eng. universal rear leaf kit and made it work with the front and rear hangers included in the kit. I think the Jag would work just fine if you have enough room upward to mout the outter arms on the rear The rear end width is about 58 inches It's a rear end from a n 83 Malibu wagon nothing fancy. It rides OK but a nice Jag front would be a better ride...Good luck Steve...best regards Steve Todd

That looks great! what kinda rear end you have Ghost? We're looking at a 10 bolt posi... you have any pictures of the frame you made for the body? ours had all the wood in it... we got the roof and crossmembers from a cherokee , gotta bang out some dents from the chevy roof, cut the new one and weld it.

The rear end is from a early ford bronco I had to redrill the axles and brake drums for a smaller bolt pattern and I have a thread****led (28 chevy sedan to sedan delivery) you might want to check it out, shows a lot of the framing inside the car and if you have time to scroll through this thread other guys have commented on the way they have done theirs. And I have posted quite a bit also, but here is a few pics of some of the framing hope it helps...ghost

Well, I'm taking your advice and buying the Chassis Eng. universal rear leaf kit. I needed to set it with the original stuff on the suspension because I lost all my mounting points on the body. I'm in the process of ordering the kit. Hope I can get it lower. Thanks, Joe.

Joe, they sell two different height kits get the lower of the 2 and start by mounting the rear hanger as far back as possible, PM me if you want more details...good luck!

  25. T&J: I am running a 67 chev pickup rearend, it is original 6 lug to fit the 34-35 chev pickup wheels, it is set up as a four bar with a track locator, and coilovers. I have a 48 chev pickup front axle with batwings, and the original front springs combined and sectioned with a hidden spring cross member that I made up front. Inside is alot like Ghost's, but I stepped the rear section of the frame just enough to get it lower, but still keep a back seat. I chopped it 6.5 inches, and channeled it 3. I am running a corvair monza box in the original steering box hole, and it is NOT reversed. Small block with two dueces, and my own headers with my own style baffles. I used the original dash with the original speedo that I redid, and sunpro gauges retro fitted. Make my own steering column with an early turn signal box mounted to it. The radiator is a 66 mustang 289 three core, that fits perfect in the grille shell.

Well in my last post without fenders. the front end was sitting too high so I ordered a new posies spring with a relaxed arch and reversed eyelets. then installed it, and put the fenders, and boards back on. And I am a lot happier with the way it sets, and ride height. At least with it this low I can go up easier than trying to lower it more...ghost

this is the latest with ours: got the body off, started doing some body work. made new new steel a-pillars and started making the new body frame. go the all leaf springs out, rear end out, drilled out all spring mounts, cut off the rear part of the frame including part of that gas tank bracket. notched the rear 1/4 of the frame 3/4".
