My name is Brian and I need a g***er and the knowledge to put one together. Right now I have a 97 Trans Am that I just popped the motor in (again) and have to stick another one right back in it. But after that its all about a g***er, its to the point I am about ready to buy any damn car and jack up the front end and put the biggest engine I can trip over at a swap meet in to it. Believe me, it's alot easier said than done, when it comes to "jacking up" a car. Which you probably know that. I say, If the Trans Am isn't your daily driver, sell it and pick up something older. and if you really want a g***er find a body style that has already been shown to be good g***er material and look for any build pictures of that body style and and get to building. If you're a little new to the idea of building a g***er, you would be ahead to find a car with the straight axle already in it, say anything from the 30's and 40's. Trucks lend themselves well to that build style and they had straight axles alot longer than cars. Hell, Ford trucks had them all the way up to 1964. I don't know when Chevy quit using straight axles. Oh and BTW, if going high is the plan, use the straight axle. A arms with ball joint spacers are bad news. I was actually looking in to doing a early 60's Chevy II or Falcon, I saw one at a show and thought it was pretty cool. Of course a Willies, Tri 5 Chevy or Henry J would be ideally the car of choice but they are a little over done and finding one that is some what solid is going to cost you.
I know what you mean about the price of Willies and Tri-fives and such. I know the falcons can be built as g***ers but I'm not sure the best way to build it. At least with Chevy II's you can get g***er subframes so it might be a little easier to go that route. But it's up to you.
Welcome to the H.A.M.B., If you really want to be different why not try to build a 62-63 Barracuda or Dart. They are still pretty easy to find and you don't have to Mortgage your house to buy one.
Who makes that? Yeah they are trick cars but Mopar guys would hunt me down when I stick a Chevy or Pontiac engine in it. Actually he is a American Bulldog but close enough.
