Save your nickles!! The Ralph Whitworth Collection heads to auction!

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by dragnut, Jun 8, 2009.

  1. The Whitworth Collection will go up for sale with no reserves. Looks like the museum is a no go. Take a look at the link to RM Auctions. There are a shit ton of bitchen cars for sale. It is definitely going to be an interesting day as the market is soft and there are so many cars being dropped at one time.
Admittedly out of my price range, but I venture to say that there could be some deals had for sure. I gotta get the hell off this computer and start looking through the couch cushions for some dough! I want Tognotti's Avenger! Gimme Ralph Jilek's custom! The Mazmanian Vette!! The Khougaz Roadster!! Jack Stewart's Custom!! Awwww crap I want 'em all!! Check it out-they are adding more daily. D.

The museum is a no go? Damn, I went there last August and it sure sounded like the plan was to build it then. I only got to see a few of the cars but what amazing historic stuff they had. I couldn't believe the Bonneville display which was being shown then in the "Flying A Garage". They had Tom Cobbs roadster...

The Avenger deuce, Mazmanians Vette and JJ's Nova would be at the my top of my list.

  7. I may have spoken out of turn regarding the museum being a no go, but I am pretty sure there won't be much left to look at. Who's gonna pay to go into a warehouse to see tire tracks that lead out the door!

  8. Hey Brian, you speak the same french I do-haha!!

  11. DAMN!! I was REALLY looking forward to that museum. They should have their own spot together in the Smithsonian.

The number 21 NASCAR with boss motor is a hell of a deal any where in the country. Very rare to say the least.

They bought my '36. I can't afford to buy it back, but I'd like to keep track of it.

I guess it is a sign of the times that being caretaker for great cars is shorter than it was in the past. Not sure if having many in one place is better than placed around the counrty, either way they will all get good homes.

It's sad the stupid money that he spent to buy those cars. Many of them had been owned by the people he bought them from for a LONG time. I think it would have been a far better museum for the hot rod/custom crowd than the Petersen is. I'm sure many of the guys are like 50 Fraud and would like to buy back the cars they sold, but won't be able to afford them. I know a guy who sold one to Ralph. He'd had the car for YEARS. The only reason he sold it was because he was having serious health issues and needed the money. He got got good money for it, but was more glad that it was going to be preserved as the original survior it is. Now, who know what will happen to it.....

  27. Damn !!!! It makes you wonder what's up when a dude pays over a million for a L-S-6 drag car how long it will last >>>>.

Damn, those were my two pics too. Not that I'd be able to buy either one. That '60 Starliner is neat too, but it says it's a recreation. I'm not familiar with the original.

It really makes me wonder what happened that the plan was dropped and they're getting sold?

That was Art Gerricks car, he built it in the late 30's and was hot rod of the month I believe in may or so of 51 in hot rod magazine. When Guffey owned it I got it running for him, the car still wears its original paint, definately an unrestored survivor. Art was hill climb racing it in the 60's and blew up the motor and it had a display motor in it when guffey bought it, he had a new short block built and I assembled it with the rajo head, dual distributos, winfield carbs. killer piece
