In my defense (yes i am parting this car), i tried to sell the damn thing as a whole but people are afraid of rust and you would think someone would have bought it for $800 but apparently not. Now instead of trying to sell it as a whole and dealing with people asking the same ****ING questions over and over i decided to strip it and sell it to people who i knew would need and USE the items not just relist them for more money. I plan on s****ping NOTHING on this car, so yes i guess im a bit of a hypracrit but oh well, **** it. I would rather part the car and see the parts get used to build something instead of just sitting in my garage when "one day i'll get to it"...so whatever, ***** if you want

Money, most often. I bought a 79 trans am for the motor/trans for $200. The best offer I got for it was $1000. Selling off the car piece by piece, I still have a rolling 79 TA, but am up to a little over $6K from all the tiny trim pieces. The original number matching space saver spare sold for $450,the bumper jack for $305. I couldn't tell you how many of those I threw away over the years.

In fact, I just got a free 4 door 1950 buick. Whole, not worth a lot. Parted, enough to buy a a much better project.

Another one who just posts without reading a thread.......Usually when you see a thread that pops back up from a few years ago....There is a reason and its worth reading it all before posting your 2 cents....JMHO....

I once aquired a '42 willys mb. This thing was so rusted out that I was sure I was going to be able to move it without it falling apart. Well I brought it home with the ambitions of putting a fibergl*** tub on it and getting it running a driving. My wife got tired of looking at it so it had to go down the road. I made close to $5000 on the parts that I dared to try and sell. The guy I got it from thought I was crazy for wanting it, so he let me have it for free. He was sure surprised when I sent him a portion of the loot.

    Oh my.
Another rule to follow. If I am answering a question, my answer would be different if I read other peoples responses first? I doubt that.

Of course my opinion might change, if it is actually years later. Does that mean I have to explain why I changed my mind too? :D

well if you can convince the ***holes that live around me that i should save all my cars none of them would get crushed! guess "tree hugging" is more "in vogue" than preserving "automotive history!" funny thing is its a common myth that vehicle that are parked for prolonged periods attract rodents but many rodents prefer the safety of trees!

When I was younger, I removed (needed) a rear end from a perfectly good 40 Ford coupe. I rolled the car into a gravel pit. I went back there about 10 years later to discover the car was gone.

as hard as it is to find parts these days, it is great to find someone parting cars out for those much needed parts. take one of the cars i am parting out for instance. its a plain-jane 4dr that nobody cares about or wants. but when you part it out, everybody who needs even the tinyest little part, get what they need.
i had a really hard time finding lots of little parts for my other cars and finding someone who is willing to part one out is a great help.
just cut the rear quarters and fins off of my 56 today and sold them to a guy who wants to sculpt them into an old 39. neat idea, but nodoby was willing to cut and sell him the quarters and fins. so i did.
