Sled: Well, back in action...Finally i've been to visit an huge junkyard that i planned since long ago.Lot of stuff there, and basically interesting to get new contacts and hear where some more junk is..ya know,PR work...anyway was an exellent day and very friendly people,so let's start with some Caddy 46 ambulance and early 50's Chrysler wagon...I've heard they had some hearses here but there was only one and too far gone.Interestingly, more stuff came up and it was definately worth it take a look....enjoy the tour, Sled
Sled: Here the Chevy 48 hearse ,never heard of this coachbuilt name.If anyone knows please chime in...anyway,too far gone to me.Lots of model A stuff layin around ,cabins, pick up stuff, wheels ,really too much to mention...ok,much more on the go...Sled
Sled: Well, how in the hell the A pick up can be sittin up there above all that tranny crap??It takes some imagination to park it there ...anyway,very savable stuff here....a De Soto 46 i think is sittin next to it....Sled
Sled: Surprizingly an old Vicky HT from the la Carrera Panamericana, probably broke up during the race and they never collected or sold it for cheap...no drivetrain on.Still the driver's name written in the door, will be interesting to know the story behind.. For the comeback of the van mania also a cool one...i feel these are makin a huge comeback soon...
Sled: A bit of everything...it was impossible to get better shots of the Mopar wagon, too much crap on there. Can figger out what exactly is....Gotgas,fill it in please!!
Sled: various stuff around...too far gone unfortunately but probably some parts can be still saved...
Sled: Some hot rod stuff to keep it Hamb friendly....I did notice an Olds drivetrain with alu valve covers and tripower intake...interesting.Also some loose flattie V8 and 4 bangers around..
Sled: Here somethin unusual...these powerplants are US made and they were sent to Mexico long ago ,most of them are still brand new unused...Caddy flatheads engines with Sherman tanks trannys, all military surplus...The tranny is much bigger and heavier than the normal Hydramatic...unusable for a car. There were 20/30 of em layin around and more sittin in another stash...so,we got some interesting brand new unused Caddy flatties around here... Gauges were made by Murphy in Tulsa ,OK...Anybody knows about this stuff?? Probably we can get rid of the trannys but i feel there will be a good use for the Caddy flatties...well,let me know in case..problem is the weight, hard to move this stuff around...but still worth it to save em to me. Sure unexpected stuff.....Sled
Mangus B thanks for those pic's,some interesting stuff there. All those caddy flattie you guy's need to save those. Ever thought of organizing holiday tour's,let me know. Thanks for the quick reply with foto's tony...
K.S.K, welcome mate!!At this place there was much more stuff, but it was too big and night was coming,no light...in case i'll go back soon to check it out again....Sled
The Murphy Safety Switch on those Caddy power plants had an adjustable fail-safe to set a minimum oil pressure or maximum temperature. They would shut the engine down outside the limits, and you could test them in operation. The company is still in business: http://www.fwmurphy.com/company/history.htm
Harry B,wow..that's a nice surprize to trace the history down here...will take my time and read about Pat ideas and such..thanks a lot!! Sled
That's a 57 Dodge wagon. I can't read that badge on the right rear quarter panel. How's it look under all of that crap? Thanks Sled, I need a cold shower now.
Hey Benzine, cool to know it..actually i was close to dump all the fuckin trash above and around the car but there were lot of crap and couple big iron fences, could'nt move em by myself...The badge on the quartel panel was an handmade fake,i could'nt read it myself close by..that's why i did not took a pic of it. Was a bit overwhelming to drool all over and sometimes is hard to focus... Condition wise i think it was not worth it..sneaked thru the camera unde the hood and that was a inline engine in there, guess 6....hard to tell,i could'nt lift the hood also....interior was there and i noticed a roof rack on..unfortunately i think is too late for this beibi...Sled
Harry B,ah..you put me on a tuff mission here!!!Ok,Just today i saw some cool german and english stuff among others but not the like the classy BMW shown above.. In my schedule im planning also to visit an old lifetime collection belonging to a gentleman X,ya know...the same old story! That kinda guy that loves EU cars and have some quite good ones...and a big number. If my memory works properly he told me years ago that he has such BMW.. If is there, is in good conds ,under a roof in a dry place... Can't say any more now,but i'll keep in mind when is the right time...sound fair enuff Harry???Sled
Any shot of saving these cars? I have been shearching for a 56 merc convertible for years... I dont care what it takes, I have lots of time and cand weld with the best of them, so if I have 2 of the cars there I will get one built out of them! Jim
Cfnutcase,well...i've been to that place probably 2 years ago once...im far away from there now and not going back soon in that area. What i can do is askin my pals that brang me there to check out if these Mercs are still there, who knows? They live quite close from there and perhaps i can get get updated infos via phone, will be easier...let me try, can't promise but i'll try...As far i remember for some reasons those cars there were not for sale..better ask anyway to be sure what the story is...Sled
Sled, you still being a hearse junky? If so,contact me via PM,I know where a pair of '50 Cadillac hearses are,one running and driving, for dirt cheap here in California
Sled, Great post! How about Hudsons? Have you come across any Hudsons relaxing down there? Thanks mang!
I don't need a nice one, just a basket case or chassis/running gear will do for my project. They are called 501 and 502, and not really collectors' items, and they turn up in East coast junkyards, but all rusty and frozen up. 503, 507 or 3200CS would work, but those really are collector cars.
Hooligan63,thanks for the lead ...already PM'd you..lookin forward to see some pics and such...appreciate it ,man Sled
Rod_n_Hudson....well,sure i do love those Hudsons for various reasons...great style, art deco details, cool performance on the Twin H power...very well enginereed machines. Also being in Mexico i do have a special attraction to the La Carrera Panamericana.Hudsons were well known performers in the tuff one with great results (1950/54) and there is still a good number of em racing nowadays...lookin forward next october to meet the racy gang in town and take some good shots Got one right now,a 49 coupe all restored...pics comin soon. I've found some of em around ,not many but among others a 46 coupe,a 37 convertible project , a 47 convertible complete that needs resto, couple coupes 49/52 etc...got some pics around. Beautiful cars either stock or kustomized, they look killer Sled
Harry B,let's see if i can find somethin solid around here that is worth it to save...as usual you never know what's around..just like yesterday, totally unexpected cool stuff and closed by... As far i remember i don't reckon any 502 that i remember...let ya know in case...Sled
Sled: Rod_n_Hudson,here some pix of my 49,stock conds.Still 6 volts.Manual tranny, easy handling car and lots of thumbs up when driving it...as said not many around,so people loves it...Sled
Awsome thread. So many great cars. i know where i am going on my next vacation. Thanks for all of the pics and details sled!!
