Those of us in So Cal are fortunate enough to not have to drive 5000 miles to get to something as cool as the LA Roadsters show.

" Is it about the "look" or the "drive"? " We do both.

It was in response to the comment about us: "But jeez, I've never seen so many radial tires on "traditional" cars in my life." When someone throws stones, expect to get a few tossed back.

And as to being "fortunate enough to not have to drive 5000 miles" isn't something we think of as a bad thing. The point is "the DRIVE" is what it is all about for us, more than "the LOOK", as a matter of practicality and experience. Just what works for us. Mike Meadows ''36 roadster did the trip on bias several times before he switched to the new Coker tall radials. The "Dictator" drove his '34 roadster with bias more times than I can remember, but eventually even he had to give them up after stopping along the way to get them rebalanced and sometimes shaved to get them round again. We even found a guy that still shaves tires in Eureka, Calif one year! And who said anything about "the I'm better then you stuff yet?" Not me! Hell, we're from South Dakota! We all know you Cali guys are way cooler than us!

Now, back to the regularly scheduled program: L.A. Roadsters now welcoming....................

 

hey ...timebomb there were two sets of kinmont's out there!!!!!

 

Its the scene man! If ya can drive yer rod there parkit in the special cars area thats where the WIP cars are. Its like the old days with the clubs having paint rules, and they wore spiffy shirts etc.I spend more time in the rods an swap areas so i can see the builds. Inside is neat but its a sea of chrome an polish.

 

I am planning to drive my roadster down on Friday, its got Firestone dirt tires front and back and has the "look" but it wants to find every crack and pot hole and after 500 miles in a day you are ready for a couple of "cold ones" but I don't think I would go with radials.

As for the Roadster Show, been going since "Christ was a cowboy" and plan to keep going. The absolute best combination of swap meet and car show there is PERIOD! If $30 is to much stay home and watch the tube , but don't ***** about it.

Back in the late 60s I had a 28 with a big Olds in it and it was fully painted but not to the Roadster Club standards and they would not let me park inside. No problem, it's their football so it's their rules.

Never said the show was not worth seeing. It HAS to be a good show for the Lake Area boys to drive 5000 miles and see. Just making light of the $30 parking spot.

 

And about 80% of em are either black or red. Pretty boring

I didn't paint it, and it'll be a different color when the time comes. Besides, my 38's not as common as a Deuce (IMO). Black/Red cars do bore me, even though I own a black car. Deuces bore me to tears, and I own one of THEM too. When my Deuce gets painted in the next couple weeks, it'll be light years from black/red, I ***ure you that. You've seen the cars that I do. Orange pearl 60 Pontiac w/orange flake top, 32 in Lime flake, 51 Ford AWB in lime pearl. And, even though I didn't build my old 64 Elky, the candy purple with pearl white scallops clearly reflects my taste.

 

I always look forward to seeing anything you've done, Groucho. Just razzing your berries a bit, there.

Why so angry?
40'-50's(?)maybe, but I've seen many, many trad (at least in spirit) hot rods with radials. Yeah, wide, modern radials can kill the look, but I definitely know better than to say "period".

Father's Day weekend in Pomona....heck yeah.

Go figure...spend thousands on the '32 to bring it out this year (paint the doors and hoodsides, put in an interior) and they are changing things up! Ha ha ha
(I get it though, special parking, Sunday only)

So where exactly is this HAMB camp? How am I going to find you guys? No HAMB breakfast at Papa Z's on Saturday? I plan to be out there mid day Wednesday.

Guess I'm too old to understand all this stuff about bias VS radials, but when I drove my 32 roadster to Detroit Nats in 1972 & back to L.A. the total miles traveled were 5000+. Back then the "hot" setup was those bias white lettered "Goodyears", & I learned quickly when on I-40 how much the semi's grooved that 2 lane when trying to p*** at 70+mph.
The next year, 1973, repeated the trip to Tulsa Nats running the same bias tires, this time on I-10 mostly & roads were better, but after returning to L.A. switched to running radials & have been running them ever since.
I don't claim to be an authority on tires, but I can speak on different road conditions over the years, 5 times across the USA, 2 odometers totalling 300,000 miles since 1968, & proud to be an Honorary member of the L.A. Roadsters.--------Don

You're right. It would be tiresome to look beyond the shine to see the workmanship, style and cl***.

 

Why the face? Is that a bad thing? Tell me if it is! I have a room at the Fairplex but I think I'm gonna give it up. I just found out they raised the rate from GNRS (now $200+ opposed to the $125 over the winter).
