That is a damn nice piece of engineering, and a brilliant idea. Kudos for keeping the REAL hot rod spirit alive. HOWEVER, it's closer to a NASCAR Fusion than a '70 Mustang now. And at least the NASCAR can turn!

Good catch, I aquired the 3208 in some swapping. I was thinking of using it in an International car hauler that I have some time in the future, but the old IDI 7.3 thats in there just wont quit.

 

I believe your right. The heads on my motor were spares made for the twin turbo motor. The tractor is still there, with complete engine sitting in the shop collecting dust. The brother with the imagination is in the Denver area now. He designed a really neat motorcycle clutch called a Rev-loc, I believe he got a patent on it.

 

I found this old pic. on the net awhile back. Thought it was pretty cool. Not much info. on it though.

 

Heard one of those in a sherman 2 years ago. Awsome! but a bit loud for combat. I guess the radial engines they used could be pulled and replaced in less than a hour alowing the tank to be returned to combat while the other engine was overhauled.

I've seen several of these years ago in the Katy TX area at rice farms. The guy who showed them to me said they had been used as irrigation pump motors but the later Chrysler Hemi Industrial engines were much more economical and so they switched to them.

 

When i was in my early teens in the mid 70's my dad had a friend who had a large offshore race boat with 2 of those motors . Can't rember his name for sure but i think it was Jeffry or somthing like that and the boats name was the Shamrock. All i can realy rember is when he hit the throttle on those motors i almost pissed my pants.

 

I don't think this is a Ford, but it is some kind of a V-8 tank engine, and it's a HOOT!

I keep hearing rumors about an offshore boat from years ago with Ford GAA power but I have never seen any pictures of it.

Yes I saw them and heard them run. My high school friend Dave Lawson got to go out on that boat quite offten. The boat was keep in Redondo beach or maybee Santa monica and i think the boat was built in Santa monica by Jefferies.

 

Between 1949 and 1952 I drove M4A3E8 Shermans and M26 Pershings. Both had GAA engines. The GAA had tork all over the aircooled radials and was the best suited for tanks.

Havi, that engine belongs to a friend of mine in Phoenix. My engine is (was) mechanically fuel injected. I am about finished with the carburetor conversion in the interest of making it a little more streetable.
