    i have a '49 chevy 4-door with a '56 235 and i got a t-5 5 speed out of an s-10 that i want to put into it. i was wondering if anyone would know what clutch friction disk will work for this as the splines on my friction disk are the course 10? spline and the shaft on the t-5 is a finer spline count. also what rear end would someone recommend? i can get the s-10 rear end but was not sure if it is too narrow or not.

    I used napa disk rcf4190 it is a 9+ inch disk with my 51, and used My factory pressure plate. the t5 has 14 splines and your car das 10. I used the s10 rear end and used dodge dart springs and perches but ch***is engeneering, jamco, ect make bolt on 2.5 inch spring kits that I would recomend over what I did. as for your gear ratio I put in a 3.27 ish gear ratio and it was too tall to use 5 th gaer unless you had lots of road, and even then the rpms were so low it lugged the engine on any sort of incline, you will have to cut out the middle of your x-member and fab a tunnell as the t5 is substantially wider than your current 3 speed.
    Hope this helps you... WC.......

    Use the Carquest V8 s-10 clutch kit. It's in there books. It won't be easy to find on thier computer system. But if you get them to open the book it's in there.

    Can't remember for sure but look at a disc for a V8 T-5 equipped 1980's Mustang fox body

    Here's a good S10 swap thread
    http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=274702&highlight=s10

    Now some S10 rearend school:

    There's 3 widths of S10 rearends.
    Doesn't matter if it's a Blazer or truck, they share.

    WMS to WMS width
    55" = 2WD
    59" = 4WD
    63" = ZR2 off road option

    7.5 vs 8.5 school
    8.5 rearends are not common.
    Look in 2nd generation S10's that originaly had a 5 speed trans.
    Disc brakes were an option in '95 and became standard about '99.

    Below is the visual difference between the 7.5 and the 8.5

    7.5" rear end.
    Notice how the axle tubes are straight
    The rear end cover is more squareish
    [IMG]

    8.5".
    Notice how the housing cover is almost completely round
    and the bulge in the axle tube just before it goes into the pumpkin
    [IMG]

    See the bulge in the axle tube of the 8.5 where it enters the pumpkin.

    Another bit of S10 axle info:
    Look in the glovebox for the production "data plate" sticker.
    It has the RPO codes to determine ratios and diff type.

    GU2 2:73 ratio
    GU4 3:08 ratio
    GU5 3:23 ratio
    GU6 3:42 ratio
    GT4 3:73 ratio
    GT5 4:10 ratio

    GQ1 Open Differential Rear Axle
    G80 Positraction/Locking Rear Axle

    example:
    4:10 posi rear would have two RPO's.
    GT5 & G80

    Exceptions to the rules:
    If you find only a GQ1 on the data plate and no
    "GU" or "GT" codes, then it's an open diff "standard ratio" of 3:08.

    If there's no "G80" or "GQ1" it's an open diff.

  9. There are a couple of other clutch discs that work, one for 80s Jeep and one for the Astrovan.

    S10 2WD rear is too narrow, S10 4x4 needs the perches moved; second-gen Camaro is a tad wide but all you need to do to it is drill a new hole for the locating pin to center the axle and you're golden.
