Not exactly sure what my plans for this one will be. The guy I got it from said one of the conecting rods is bad. The cylinder head is off and when you turn it over #7 cylinder piston doesnt move. Maybe yank the staight 8 and put in a 350 chev.

How easy is the Pontiac straight 8 to work on? I've never owned one. All the engine parts are in the trunk. I would need to tear into the engine even more to see what the problem is in that cylinder, then finding gaskets for it to re***emble seems like a h***le.

My wife usually says not before I even speak, so I just buy what I want like you did and ask for forgiveness...(no).

Looks like a decent car to me...be glad you didn't say no.

If the straight eight isn't saveable, I hope you can resist going with a 350. No more work to make motor mounts for a 455 and you could sure use the torque in that thing. I love these cars (too much)...

napa can more than likely get the gaskets for this motor... but yea. slide a poncho mill back into it if you decide to use the inline 8 for a boat anchor

The only thing sounds sweeter than a pontiac straight 8 is a pontiac 400 with a ram air 4 cam.

it seems like not being able to say no is a wisconsin thing because me, my dad, my cousin, and most of my friends are the same way.

Sounds like a plan. I have a 354 cu. Hemi to trade for a motor and trans combo for the 48 pontiac, or... i guess I could put the Hemi in the poncho:rolleyes:

  21. I am with ZMAN... either a pontiac 400 or 455....could be bad***...

The cool factor of popping the hood and showing off a straight 8 is worth the effort, and they do sound sweet.

I'd either drop the hemi in or I'd at least keep it all Pontiac. Would be cool if you could find a 421 or 428 for it or even a 389. Pontiacs engines are great no matter which one you find from the 389 to the 455, they're stump pullers

from what I found online, thats all they do, 294 cu and 100hp. I'd need to melt the back tires. That wont do...

Yep, Pontiac V 8 either 350,400 or 455. Not spendy and if you replace the timing chain they run forever.

California Pontiac Restoration has the gaskets you need, I bought a bunch of stuff for my 239 flat 6. Otherwise I have a Pontiac 350 on the back burner for my 41.

  29. I have a 389 and a 400 if you're in the mood for a drive. One core, one used runner -
