  8. Yeah.. the drool you had to clean off before you took the pics was mine... sorry about that...

Seriously, that truck is even cooler in person, even in the dark - the pics don't do it justice.

I'm curious about the front cross member swap. I see the bolts on my '66 frame, and can make them out through the mud and oil on my '79.

Wikipedia says the Chevy Van of the same era used the same '73-87 front suspension. Was wondering if it was the exact same as the truck?

  10. Motor mount locations are offset different, and the steering box and centerlink are different. So, save your motor mounts and find a pick-up steering box.
Try the Hollander Exchange to see if Full size car steering gear will fit.

I'll be using the '66 steering box and drag link. Girlfriend dosn't want power steering.

  12. Most of the Chevy truck parts houses have the tie-rod adjuster to adapt the early to late tie-rod ends.
Either that, or you can buy the taper ream and ream your centerlink oversize for the late model tie-rod ends.

  13. This is what I started with and where it is today.

  14. The tear down only took a day to do, I've used a lot of parts off my donor 87 burb. I changed the front end to disk brakes and replaced all the ball joints and bushings, I've add new 2" lower spring and shocks on the front and 3" lowers on the rear. I swapped the 283 four speed granny gear for a 350 TBI and 700r auto. This truck will be my daily so it will have a/c, power brakes, electric windows and power lock, tilt and cruise control.
I also changed it from 6 lugs to 5, that means new rear axles and spider gears and new bearings and fluid to freshen it all up.
The next thing is starting on the body work.
    Stay tuned, more to come.

Just an update. Bags are on their way!

Anyone know off the top of their head what the hub diameter is on stock wheels?

And now today. Finally back to one color. I took it all down to bare metal and primed it. I'm now starting the body filler and patching holes in preperation for paint. I got the hood smoothed out today. The tailgate has a couple of dings. The doors and front fenders will need some typical patching.

Just found this thread and am impressed with the variety of styles. Following are a couple of pics of our 1960 GMC. It has a 350/Super T10/Dana 44 with 4.10's. It was a daily driver and has recently been retired to hobby status along with it's owner.
