Hot Rods My first attempt at hedders

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by Tinbender, Jun 15, 2009.

  1. I expected this to be a tuff. It was! It didn't come out as good as I'd hoped for, but I can live with it. Needs a little clean up and some re-welding here and there.I bet the other one comes out much better!
It's real tight with the steering, but I like things tight!

  3. Headers are fun once you get the Hang of it. I take it your not planing on painting the car when done.

  4. Probably not. There not as close as they look, and I'll be building turnouts.

They look good, I'm going to buy a kit and try it myself.

  7. in the process of my first set of headers also. I'll never think twice about building more. they are much simpler than I thought. I didn't buy a kit. I just bought 6 J bends from an exhaust supply house for about 50 bucks and just eyeballed, cut and Tacked. the 55 Cad used two 2 inch and four 1 3/4 inch tubes. made my own flanges and collectors

Get them coated or bead blast them and use some header paint. Being all one color makes a visual difference. They will be just fine.

  11. Thanks guys. I looked them over this morning and they look fine. I tend to get a little carried away with my expectations of my work. I'll build more when the need arises. Fun project. Build some! I bought some bends, and will be building the rest of the exaust soon.

Hey, those look great. I have been debating on building a set for my 59 Opel because of how tight the stock 350 exhaust manifold exits. Now I have no excuses. Just DO it!! right?

    Good job man..

Maybe you would be up to putting a new windshield seal in this wrap around windshield? Only challenge is it's cracked.

When we fabbed the new front frame rails we to comprimise the space around the stock exhaust manifold exit. So, I either need to make headers, find a different style manifold or have a seriously contorted exit off of the manifold. After seeing this thread, I think headers are the way..
