I am about to order new firestone wide whites from coker. My question is will the 3 1/4'" white walls be to thick for my car or should I get the 2 11/16". What do you guys think will look better?

those 3" look awsome, go with the 3" dude

  8. I think the 2 11/16" would be nice.

  9. Depends on the wheels - If they're on painted steel go > 3"; if they're running full hubcaps or chrome, go modest 2.5-3", if Astros, Radirs or Cragar SS, go with < 2".

In my humble opinion, your choice should depend upon which era your car fits into.

If it's an early-style custom - like from the 50's - it would be more era-correct with wider whitewalls.

If, on the other hand, you are going for the late 50's - early 60's look, the narrower whitewalls would be more era-correct.

Spend some time doing research in old custom car magazines and on some of the HAMB threads and the evolution of whitewall widths will become apparent.

Then you'll be able to make a well informed decision as to which width will look best on your car.

    Good luck! :)

Thanks for all the input guys. I will be running stock steel wheels painted black with spider caps if that makes a difference.

I don't know but those 3.5 are looking pretty slick. If you want to play it safe go with the 3-3.25" range.

Spiders are a '60s thing. Here's a photo I robbed from the HAMB which shows a '54 Chevy with narrower white walls for comparison.

    Hope it helps! :)

Good question! Ive been back and forth on the same thing. My buddy keeps trying to get me to go 4" for that radical 50's custom, but 4" to me is just gaudy. I think the 3 1/4 will do me good, thanks for bringing it up!

2 19/32 they are rare and may need to be made but I have a friend who has a friend that says they are the only real ww that will make your car properly traditional.

I personally would go with the 3 1/4 inch, but that's just me. Wide whites look good on almost anything.

  28. I think it's possible to go too wide. I've seen some that look so wide, they could be cheesy painted tires. Mine on my caddy are 3.5"

  29. Hey, that's my car! :p Those were photoshop www's. Here's a recent pic with "real" 3-1/2" firestones, black wheels, spider caps & trim rings.
