Let me know when it's for sale. I'm looking for a 63 savoy if you know of any. I would take a decent builder or project.

  18. Its final iteration. This car was sold to a bunch of guys in Wisconsin, who ran the car for a couple of years, then pulled the motor and reportedly junked the rest. Sniff....

Love it!! Glad to see so many Super Stock Mopar Fans here!

  23. Now my favorite thread on this site!

The one I used to have and lost;Bud Faubel's 440 MW hardtop, the car that had a Hemi installed later in '64,then had the twin-turbo setup installed. Body MAY still be in the Detroit area:

    What it looked like then:

Not long ago I discovered a '64 Savoy that had been intended as a drag car, then got parked. My Harley is up for sale(back issues prevent riding),along with a couple of my vintage snowmobiles, and if things work out,I'm going to make a play for it. I want back into this SO-O-O-O-O bad;I'll keep y'all informed as to how it goes.

  24. When was the last time you saw the Faubel car? Any details where it went? This car was WAY ahead of it's time when it ran the turbo/hemi. Fuel injected, twin turbo on 10" tires. Sounds like a outlaw 10.5 car today and Bud did it in '65... Bud told me his intent was to set records with this car at Bonneville. He said they had it there but it wanted to fly. They were still learning wings and spoilers then. They gave up on the project soon there after and moved on to the AWB Dart. There are some great photos of Bud testing this car at York with the turbos.

The bottom shot was taken at 75-80 Dragaway.

Any of you belong to Moparts.com ?

  26. TM427,I sold the body,as it was in the pic back to the guy I bought it from. I had been laid of for almost two years, had sold a few MW parts to help get by. When the money ran out,I very regrettably sold the body. When I got called back to work in '89,the first call I made was to that guy. I was informed that he sold the car to someone in the Detroit area, who supposedly parted it out and (God help us all) scrapped the rest. How the bleep would you scrap a genuine MW car?! Perhaps that party didn't realize or care what it was. I'm not ashamed to say that there were tears in my eyes when it was taken away. Unfortunately, that guy was killed in a bike accident a couple of years ago when some @#$% ran into him on the road(RIP,Brian),so I can't get a number of the guy who bought it. Lou Mancini looked at the car when he bought a set of '62 heads from me and confirmed what it was(an MW car),before I discovered that it was Bud's car. I spoke with George Weiler at the '85 U.S. National and showed him pics, and he confirmed that it was the "test" car. I put out a bit of a notice in my introductory thread that I'd like to know what really happened to it. There's a lot more about the car that could be told here, but it would become a book. If,by the grace of some divine power I were to reacquire it,it WOULD be a book! Knowing that two,if not more,of his '64 cars are out there, this would have been a fantastic addition to their showings.
MWHnut,I've checked out that site;pretty cool. I also like the '62-'65 B-Body site, and Greg Lane's MW/Hemi site. That reminds me that I need to contact him with my story of when I had it,and show him some pics.
As an autoworker, the future is so bloody uncertain that if I was able to sell my bike,I'm not sure I could or should pursue the Savoy I mentioned. Hell,I turned 53 today,I should probably take that plunge and see what happens before I get too old!

That's really cool that you were able to own a car with such amazing history. I hope you find it once again!! If you're not able to locate it (Or sadly, if it's still even around) have you considered buying another '64 to fix up?

  28. Casey;there's a solid '64 Savoy close to me that I'm keeping very hush-hush about(I WANT IT BAD!),but need to come up with some $$. My preference is for the Plymouths, though I'd never kick out a fine Dodge. I'd like to put together a B/RB-powered fun car,not so much a MW "clone"-unless a complete MW top end falls out of the sky into my yard. I'm hoping to sell my bike and some other stuff and make a play for it. Hopefully,I won't encounter a "Barrett-Jackson" mentality. The engine's out of it(saw some B/RB headers on the wall behind it,so I've got an idea where it was headed),which is fine. Needs some paint, but I didn't see rust-I know, check the floor, trunk and the cowl area on the ol' B's. Solid glass, chrome and trim;a good candidate for making this ol' man's willy tingle. This things been sitting for about 20 years;where was it when I got back to work in '89 and would have jumped all over it? We'll see;if things work out,the pics will show up here first!
