I've been having quite a bit of trouble out of the old Flatty that was in my 52 so yesterday I decided to pull it and the trans out and put my rebuilt flathead in.

Thought I'd share some pics of the job.

This is it as of last night, I didn't get an updated photo for today, but there's a video at the bottom that shows it.

I pulled the valve pan cover off of the old engine and I have never seen an engine so gunked up. I'd say whoever had it before me must have run Quaker State or never changed the oil. It's pretty nasty. I'd say this and a list of other things may be why it was starting to act up.

I got the engine fired up today and it sounds good, but the transmission is stuck. The engine is a 1952 268 bored .060 over to a 278. It wont go into gear or come out of gear - not sure what's going on. I may have to switch transmissions.

Here's a video of it running just a little while ago...

    It's a Hydra-matic...

Anyway though I've never separated the engine and automatic transmission. Engine is a 1952 and trans is a 1954. I took it out of another 1952 Pontiac. Engine was rebuilt before I got it and not run any. I don't know much about the transmission's condition.
