Centurian; T-Bolts had regular white headliners like all '64 Fairlanes. Turbo442- in 1964 the top of the gas tank WAS the trunk floor.

spiertb,

actually the 64 Fairlane trunk had it's own floor. The gas tank was seperate and is mounted underneath the floor. Not like a Mustang where the tank is the floor.

John; You are correct--I guess I'm brain-dead today--I've got a '64 right out in the garage that I've restored!!1 Guess I confused it with my '66 Fairlane or my '64 Comet--they have the gas tank as the trunk floor. Duh!!!

How about checking the air intake housings on top of the carbs. One post had one car with a split into two separate parts housing. But 99% have a one piece. Be interesting to find out the story behind the two piece one if you run into it.

11. One of my favorite T-bolt clones and it is for sale:(.......Wish I had about 90 grand laying around:eek:

I would like to know about the 64 Ford Thunderbolt car number 89 that was owned by Winkler Motors in <ST1:p<?xml:namespace prefix = st1 ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com[IMG]Asheville NC</ST1:p. Bill Winkler and David Watson were the owners and the car was drove by Dockie Tripplett. I understand the car is in <ST1:pAL</ST1:p where the car has been since 1992 or so, and is in the process of being restored. Thanks Grady Long

Here is some film of Austin's T-bolt in action in stock form, May 9, 1965, plus a shot of Gene Wilson's T-bolt.

How could those two be the same car? I don't think 64 and 65 Comets share any sheetmetal.....do they?

17. I heard this too, from Jack Chrisman back in '69. I saw the car in person at the Service Center in Inglewood Ca. around '68 it was for sale. My family had owned a '64 Comet and I still don't see how he did this. lots of cut & paste I geuss...

So, who owns this car? Who built it? Does it ever run? It looks just about perfect. I don't care for the white paint on the restoration of the original Austin Thunderbolt. Should be black.

The original Austin car was white as all except the factory team cars were. Austin ran it white for awhile before painting it black.
This replica looks great, well done but in my opinion it sits a bit too high all around. The original sat lower when standing still. If I'm not mistaken the rear fender flare didn't extend all the way 'round the elongated openings on the original. Great to see this car replicated though.

The '65 Chrisman car was converted from the original '64 car. The roof and unibody are essentially the same on '64-5 cars.

Fordflashback, how about posting the photo of the Falcon you have as your avitar. I have a large collection of Falcon and Comet photos on my computer. I also have a '65 Falcon now and have had two Falcons and two Comets in the past.

These are vidcaps from an old home movie, so please excuse the quality.
This is the old Bob Ford fiberglass Falcon after Dave Lyall sold it to the Cantron (sp?) brothers, at Detroit Dragway.

Here's Dennis K's Bob Ford T-Bolt in it's Expressway Gulf colors vs the Falcon. Two ex-Bob Ford cars battling it out.

Wow, seems like a ton of work. Wouldn't it have been easier to swap the drivetrain over into a complete 65 body shell? LOL

Well it's not actually a Thunderbolt but the Wild Child is a real factory A/FX car. Here is a picture and you can go to The Wild Child for more information on the car. I restored this car in 2004 and we were invited to the Ford Nationals in Carlisle, PA where they were hosting the Thundebolt 40th Reunion. Strange as it may seem, they featured the Wild Child in the Thunderbolt program.

Enjoy,
Joe Germann
