Pretty much what I was thinking, well put.

Flyn; Great job, I think the color adds an almost European feel to the car.

On a one to ten scale I give it an eleven. Super original but still fits the era. Nice Work!

  6. I don't know how you did it, but you pulled it off. The car looks great and I think your choice and use of color is what pulled it all together. Well done sir.

  7. Ditto to that! I'd like to see a build thread too. ;)

Had rather bad day yesterday, knocked one of th rear fenders on the floor  scratched it and a hairline crack in the filler on the center seam. Thinking I'd switch gears, I decided to install the new kingpins and bushings. Right. It's gonna take a press to get them out, so I can live the couple of thousands slop in the old ones till this winter and I feel like taking the axle out.

Today, things went better, I buffed out the scratches in the fender, which turned out to be in the clear only, and the little crack is invisible. I got the fenders all on, which you'd think would be easy since they came off OK, but NOOOO. Had a trial getting them adjusted nicely over the tires, but eventually got them even, level and the right distance off the tires.

Cut the windshield, installed it, no problem and then tried to install it. Like the fenders, you'd think it'd go right on, but again, NOOO. Seems that with the glass in, and the lower rail bolted to the posts, it takes some effort to collapse the gasket against the cowl, which makes it almost impossible to get the bolts which hold it all in line up. I ended up taking it out, trimming the gasket a little, and had to re-tap the holes in the posts once, finally got it by using some new bolts (although there was nothing wrong with the others) and got it. It's NEVER coming off again!

I tried sand blasting a scrap interior panel (I'd made a boo boo in the bead) but even with only 30 lbs pressure, it warps the panel too much to try the good ones. I've decided on to Scotch Brite them, using Murphy's Oil Soap as a lube, which some guys do almuminum travel trailers with, which gives a sort of shiny-er than mill finish look.

All in all, it looks good, and while I'm a little dissapointed I didn't get it totally together this last couple of days, I'm happy with where it is, and another week should see it completely finished and ready to get the exhaust done. I won't make the show this weekend, but that's OK, summer hasn't really even started!

The pictures don't reflect the amount of work, nor the progress made, involved in what I did yesterday, but I DID gain lots of ground. :D

I polished the hood side trim and mounted that. Two of the bars have small dings, but I positioned them on the bottom, with the dents behind the forward hood latch handle, which is probably how they got dented in the first place. The trim really looks great, I'm glad I kept the holes in the hood sides. Gives the car a little "bling" and looks good with the stock ornament.

I scotchbrite'd the drivers side interior panels and mounted them, made the map pocket insert, and got the seat and seat belt mounted. I used a dynamat like material I bought at an RV salvage place on the door and quarters, and used a butyl RV seam sealer tape where the aluminum panels rest against the body to prevent rattles and "tinnyness". The result is the car feels more solid, and shutting the door results in a pleasant "thunk".

Mounted the gauges too, although I'm still waiting for my buddy to make the new face for the Harley speedo. It's going to be a lighter gold with brown numerals to match the '37 cluster next to it. Still need an ash tray or a radio dial to fill the center hole.

Have to get the "finished" cars and the trailer ready for this weekends outing, and each of our bikes has flat tires, so no work on the roadster today, but I'm happy with where the car is now.

Are we twins separated at birth? LOL, the top is '02 Sebring convert, which is alot like the PT cruiser tops, I'm even using the Chrysler Haartz like canvas, although the glass window (sadly) doesn't allow the top to fold completely.

  11. Would it be possible to chop the back window so it would let the roof fold correctly? Just a random thought. Or just fit a smaller one?

Not posted on it before, but I LOVE this car. Like everyone else said, it sounds like a bad idea, but turns out so beautifully. Must just be the one doing the work. Keep us posted with a list of shows your doing so we can check it out in person!

Here's the dash with the waterfall machine finished. I had the big hole with nothing in it, so for now, a filler of similarly finished aluminum works, although it's a little "busy". A clock or gauge or something with a gold face like the rest of the gauges would look better.

Now, if I could only find the little knurled lock nut for the light switch, I could have the dash all done. OK, the speedo still needs finished, but you know what I mean...;)

Today was the perfect day for the first ride in the Fordillac! Low 80's, sunny, gentle breeze, perfect summer day. The only hitch was, the car decided today was NOT the first drive day!

First off, of the new park light housing I put in the headlight reflectors, one of 'em did NOT take an 1157 bulb, even tho it was marked on the package that it did. As I had to go the auto parts store to get posi gear lube and a new gasket for the rear end and vacume hose to hook up the vacume modulator (oops, forgot those two things!) I figured I'd just pick up the correct replacement socket. Wrong. So, I finished wiring up the headlights, minus the blinkers on the passenger side, and then the (new) light switch fell apart, and I went back to the parts store for another universal switch and some other stuff I forgot the first trip.

They had to order that, it'll be here Saturday. Oh well. So, I pulled the rear end cover, installed the new gasket and then tried to fill it. Do you think I could get the plug out? No way. Instead, I filled it thru the ABS sensor boss, which was kinda slow, but it came out and the pipe plug wouldn't.

Then, put the clamps on the fuel filler neck rubber tubes where there weren't any, dumped a couple gallons of gas in, hit the key and...nothing.

It cranked over, but the fuel pump (elec) just rattled, and obviously no fuel was getting to the carb. So, I fooled around with that for a while, and ultimately it must have just been unable to prime itself after running out in the garage, because it finally pulled fuel (after new filters and unhooking the line at the carb), and lit right up. This all only took about three hours.

So, now it's too late to drive a car with no brake lights, no blinkers on the right hand side, and no mufflers, but tommorows another day!

    Hahahaha. Parallel universes.

I think we are actually the same person existing simultaneously in parallel universes.

Maybe other guys just don't publicise the failures, but I didn't think it was supposed to be this hard. I'm feeling your pain brother.

    I'm looking forward to tomorrow.

Pete, did you get your throwout bearing issue figured out? Last I saw you'd machined a spacer but still had woes.

Oh, I also scratched shit out of both of the headlight buckets, turns out they're a little too close to the shock mount. My wife offered the opinion that all I had to do was move the shocks rearward half an inch... not much less work really than taking the mounts off, heating and bending them, and repainting 'em. That's what I'll have to do, and brush touch buckets where the shock bolt hit them while adjusting the lights.

Have a good weekend mate (since it's now Saturday where you are) and don't break anything!

Not Saturday yet Brian. I'm at work and it is currently 10pm Friday night.

I have my gearbox and engine back together and I think it's going to be OK. I am spending a bit of time on a few small things before I put it back in the chassis and drop the body back on. It was a good opportunity to neatly clip up all the wiring and redo a couple of small things that showed up after I last assembled it. Should be back together in a week or so I hope. I'm in no rush right now. It's winter.

You made me laugh when I read about you scratching your headlights. I know it's not funny but it's just so familiar. How do guys do it with $$$$ paint jobs?

Looking forward to your maiden voyage video. You are going to video it?

It starts. It steers. It goes like stink. It stops. Nothing vibrated loose, fell off or broke. I'm gonna post a link to a Youtube vid, but for now, here's some photos of it out of the garage. I'm VERY, VERY happy right now!:D
