I just scored a set of '53 plates for my bel air. I haven't registered the car yet because of some ***le issues. Has anyone ever driven around their car with plates but no registration? I have insurance. What is the worst that could happen? Is this a big deal? I hate not being able to drive my baby cause someone else was too lazy to ***le their vehicles before they sold it...live and learn...

Aw heck, I'm sure the Texas State Troopers will be understanding. Those guy are real easy going.

  3. Just don't do anything stupid enough to get pulled over. I'd just tell them that you are having complicated ***le issues with the DMV and that you are in the process of getting it fixed. Most cops would be cool I bet. Unless its a chick, I've never had a warning from a chick.

I understand if you get pulled over and they run your plates then ya...ur up a creek. But if you run without tags then they can see u don't have registration or plates. If you have plates then at least they don't have a reason to pull u over unless u do something wrong...

Having insurance is one thing ,

But here in my state the law can and will with little reason ,take your car into impound .

You will have to pay through the nose to get it back and it would be even harder to deal with all the extra Bull ****,

Theirs always the exception to the rule,

    I.E.

If you live in the country you could always run it up and down the block a few times without to much trouble.

Also if you happen to know a Sheriff on a one to one level ,he'll give you some insight.

    Be careful and good luck...

In Connecticut running NO PLATES is less of a crime than MISUSE of plates.

I just gave up my texas dealers licence after many years .
this is what will eventualy happen ,you get pulled over after dark with vintage plates because your not using the said car as the tags were intended , then they run the tags and find out you have ***le issues and what that means is its not in your name .so they haul the said car and you cant get the car back till you have the clear ***le in hand ,so you loose the car on saturday night and apply for a clear ***le on monday and if lucky all goes well you get a ***le in 21 days . so all you need to do is pay the wrecker fee along with 24 days of storage or the car goes up for auction, by the way what county are you in and what shape is the over all condition of said car .i make a good living on dumb luck .

I know that in OK, if you run a car with improper registration, no registration, or the wrong tags, you WILL get your car impounded and you WILL spend at least the night in jail. So, ***uming TX does the same thing, is it really worth it to you??? That's something YOU have to figure out - risk vs. outcome.

I think they have Internet access in some jails down there. Let us know.

Check with your innsurance company, your coverage maybe void after 30 days if the vechicle is not registered or cannot be registered.

They will use any excuse not to cover you!

I know of several people locally who have built cars with no V.I.N.'s, no ***les, no registration, no insurance and no state inspection. They drive their cars almost daily, and not one of them has ever been pulled over or ticketed. They also use Y.O.M. plates on them, one of them has the entire plate spray painted the body color. If one of them ever does get pulled over, besides going to jail, I doubt if they will ever get their car back because there is no way to prove it is theirs.

It's one thing to take a test drive around the block on a car without the proper requirments but to actualy drive out on the road is another.

you're in texas, they probably won't do anything.

  17. Take a look! If the cops didn't give traffic tickets, they would have almost nothing to do! And they always forget who they are supposed to be working for - thats us, the tax payers...................

Stupid is as stupid does. A county deputy MIGHT let you go once. A state trooper will not. As far as they will know, you stole the car, and I would expect that's how they will treat you. THEN there's the judge. He/she will probably fail to see either the logic or the humor the situation. Will you have insurance on the car? Have you priced THAT little oversight lately? God help you if you cause an accident. Your flagrant violation of the law in this case will not endear you to anyone in the system that deals with you, and they will most likely show you NO mercy. so-you do you feel lucky? Do ya?

According to this you can buy a 30 day permit for 25.00 that would let you take the car to a couple or rod trots if that is the plan.

I have known guys who just bought the 5 day permits every time they went to a run or show and never did register the car.

Running plates with no registration is just asking for trouble if you get pulled over for any reason. I wouldn't want to have that car impounded for being pulled over with bogus plates and no registration.

Don't do it. God forbid you get in an accident. The courts will find you totally at fault no matter what the cir***stances. "The car is not registered, you shouldn't be driving it. Accident is your fault (even if the other person is completely in the wrong)." will be the other persons lawyers stand and you'll get screwed.

You might get away with no plates,, but you won't get away with no safety sticker.

    Plain and simple...
I was in court one day and the gent before me was up for a charge of "fic***ious plates" The only thing that saved him from jail was that the plates were his from another of his cars and the judge dropped the charge to improperly displayed plates. The judge said that Improperly displayed plates or no plates at all is a civil offence of motor vehicle code punishable by fine but fic***ious plates were a crime punishable by up to a year in jail and fines.

The worst that could happen is they will impound your car. You think its tough now to obtain a ***le try getting one out of the impound lot without a ***le its damn near impossible. And as fast as the lot charges add up it wont be long before you cant afford to get it back. Just be patient ( I know I know much easier said than done but it will pay off in the long run)

Once again, this is one of those things where you need to know the laws in your state, know how the local cops or troopers tend to deal with things like this, and whether the local DA's care or not.

In NY, no insurance is a felony and no plates is a misdemeanor. So, there is part of your answer right there, at least the NY version of the answer.

Now, what do the cops usually do? Maybe they will only write you a ticket. Or, maybe they will impound you. It might depend on how pissed he/she is at you, or how much time he/she wants to devote to you. Every state, as far as I know, has enough law to permit the cop to impound you if so desired.

Then, there is the DA. If the cop knows that the local DA's can't be bothered with this, then maybe you are more likely to get a ticket.

Then there is also the reversal. It can happen that not having something like your license with you, or expired tags or expired inspection, can work to your advantage. How? You get pulled over for speeding and the cop only writes you for the clear-cut violation. He gets a ticket towards quota, you don't get points on your license. Everyone wins. It does happen.

So, just like everything else in life, it all depends on everyone's motivation.

The one clear-cut thing I will say AS AN ABSOLUTE is that you are out of your ever-loving mind if you run without insurance. You open yourself to a felony in many if not all states; you are setting yourself up to losing everything if you hit someone.

Don't be a "Knucklehead". Register and ***le your car correctly before you put in on the road. If you have an accident will your insurance pay up on an unregistered vehicle that is not legally "on the road" - not to mention, if it's your fault and you have to pay damages, etc.

i cant believe this is seriously a thread on here...might as well ***le it "how do i drive illegally and get away with it?" Think of it this way, would you rather wait a month or two until the ***le situation is figured out or possibly risk having your license revoked for a few years because you "wanted to drive your baby"...
