Northern Tool has them for $299 too. order one online, and they will deliver it to your nearest store for free, then just make your own with some paint. Mine will be made from some vintage parts, not neccessarily minibike, with a new frame, and new engine, it'll look 60's-style, I hope it qualifies... I will definitely will NOT be winning any races... My power to weight ratio means I can be timed with a calendar.
I don't remember seeing a specific set of guidlines for minibikes. I would think that common sense would play a part, and as long as someone didn't show up with a mini sport bike,or those little "chopper" scooters, or something lame like that...and it was a vintage style minibike, that it wouldn't be an issue. There isn't much change in the style of the old school type of minibike. I would think that most of the ones popping up on Craigslist are from the 70's and 80's anyway. There in no rule against Brookville bodies, or fiberglass bodies for Billetproof, as long as the style of build is "in the spirit"....minibikes should be the same.
common sense rules... and its not a big deal. pull starts only, no disk brakes, centrifugal clutch, 4 stroke edger motor you know, a mini-bike. no XR50's, YSR's and the like. a good old vintage style mini-bike. Look at my avatar for reference.
Scored me a frame and forks with new axles and spacers on the 'bay! I'll spend the next couple of months slowly pulling this thing together. Time to start hunting up some wheels and hitting up the yard sales and CL for a used edger.
OK What this post needs is tech, "How to build a minibike rack for the back of your hot rod" I think I may try and get a hitch made from mine, and I have a rack for the back of my camper...
Somewhere out there, I think I have a U-haul receiver hitch if you need it. It's the small type receiver, uses something like a 1.5" drawbar.
put them in the back of the hearse !!! or have one big trailer with ALL the mini-bikes on them, big sign on the side "Poor Boys Mini-Bike Drag Gang".... Impressive display.
nope.. nor will there be until late next week. Busy setting up the Washington Billetproof that happens this weekend. All my time is dedicated to that right now. sorry, will be back on this task next week. Its a go though, dont worry, just book the date and be ready.
Which date did we decide on again? Maybe we should start a Billetproof Florida Minibike thread to get all the mini bike stuff in one place. As far as transporting goes, I'll probably just stick mine in the back of my truck - or in the trunk of my neighbor's Dodge if he lets me.
I got one of them 2" receivers from Northern Tool, I plan on building the hitch with that... I also have the rear clip of a '41-'48 Ford Frame I can use as a fixture... I just have to measure angles and stuff.
Just found out that we do have an "outlaw" 1/8 mile track in Orlando. Bad thing is that they do not have any timing lights as of yet. One more option. Robert
Is that really a bad thing? How many pre-'64 drag strips had timing systems back in the day? Why not have traditional drag racing for traditional hot rods? I've still got plenty of flags sets left over from my stock car flaggin' days if anyone needs them, Hehe!
Regarding the Mini Bike part of this event: What styles of Mini Bikes are allowed? What restrictions are there? What criteria will be used to determine what get's in? Can you post pictures of what types get in and what types will not? How many feet long will the Drag races be?
There's an outlaw track here in Orlando? Cool. I don't think we have to have lights, etc. It's mainly about running it down the track rather than timeslips for me. I agree we need to maybe start pulling some guidelines together for this mini bike thing - maybe based on engine HP and stock or modified, etc. I've been researching it lately and there's a million and one ways to build a mini bike.
Man you guys have all the fun don't you. I can not wait to become a permant fixture in Fl. Just have to finish off with school and then I am selling the house and heading down. I hope you guys will have me............lol......
