    Hey everyone,

I used to go to Sears Point in the 1980's with my brother. I have some fond memories of some cars that I saw there on a regular basis.

I remember Dot Roach's Corvette funny car, a green Tri-5 wagon, a Willy's named Rocky Mountain High, and many others.

Anyone have photos they took out at the track during the 80's or have any other cars they remember?

    Thanks,
    Tony Huntimer

I raced my '67 Camaro on Wednesday nights at SP back in those days. The Taggarts ran grudge night, I think. Their shop was right down the street from where I worked in Richmond. I have a few pics from the pits that I can scan. Just grudge night stuff, nothing special.

I have an old Goodies sticker on my roll-away. :D

I don't know the car but I found a Goodies Speedshop T shirt in my closet this weekend. Didn't know you were on the HAMB. I hope you find the pictures you're looking for.

An old Goodies T-shirt? Is it one with the Brutus GTO or Hairy Canary Valiant? We've been trying to find one to scan for the display case. :)

Here's some pics of some old historic Goodies Speed Shop racers

That's great! I'd love to see some old pics of the pits back then. Old sticker on the tool box...awesome! Is it the one with the blown Corvair?

Yeah, I guess you had to travel to Sears Point once the idiots closed the strip at Fremont to build...then never built. I'm glad to be here. Do you remember the old back-boards at Fremont with Goodies Speed Shop on them? Any old pics? :)

Thats Bad Ass... In American Graffiti II you can see a great shot of the backboard and Goodies Speed Shot Advert.Alot of the old Footage shot by the Jackson Bros. features Fremont in the 60's and 70's. "Gasser Files" DVD's are really cool to watch by them.
RIP "Central Chevrolet" they just closed down a couple of months ago after being in business since the late 30's.

I remember being at a Fremont show on New Years Day 1980 (I was a senior in high school). The TF final had been run (Muldowney v Garlits with Muldowney launching the blower belt and some parts) and then as the sun set the jet and rocket cars came out. Pretty sure one of the jet cars was Romeo Palamides and as the jet cars lined up and goosed their throttles and lit the 'burners the big 4x8 plywood starting line back-boards began coming loose and flying up in the air! I remember the Service Center board just flying up 30 feet and spinning in the air and the crowd roared. It was very exciting. The jets went then the rocket cars went and then it was all over. That was a great day--back when Fremont was still way out in the boonies.

Well, this is the only photo I've found so far but it shows the pit area the way it was before the corporate money flowed in and changed the character of the place. Grudge Night sometime in 1982. My SB Camaro on the left and my buddy's BB Camaro on the right. He still has that car but I had to sell mine in '85 to complete college.

Yeah, the last drag race was one that I'm glad I didn't miss. Those back boards were flying! I wonder if they loosened them before the cars came out, or if they really have that much force. :)

That's a great photo of two Camaros at the old Sears Point. YOu must have been very early, since there aren't any other cars there. I have done some searching on the internet and not found any old photos of Sears Point, but plenty of Fremont.

I remember a really hot chick (named Chris?) in a Cuda that used to race a lot out at Fremont.

I'll have to check out those old videos. I'll have to break out my old More American Graffiti VHS. :)

    Here's a little history I put together:

I just happened to cruise the Internet and typed in my mothers name to see if there was any photos of her racing, or any stories I could find of her. Low and behold I found this little Gem. Just to read my momma's name and that someone remembered her racing at Sears Point was priceless. Thank You for that!! I have so many pictures of her car, Sears Point, Sacramento, Fremont and Bakersfield. Our family grew up on the drag strip its in the blood. I was feeling nostalgic and missing my Mother who passed on 4-14-13, so reading your post from 2009 it finally made it to me and put a smile on my face. I will pull out the old albums and get some photos uploaded if you still would like to view them. Thank You!!

We lived in Novato from 84 til 93. It was 8 miles to Sears Pt from our house. My wife ran her 55 there for several years at weekly drag nights and Super Chevy Sunday-she still has the car. We also ran a 66 Nova, a 56 Chevy another 55 Chevy and my 57 fuely during that time. Friend had a Speed Shop downtown (Mike's Speed and Marine) He raced there always in a 55 named the Duck Hunter. Have to dig up some pics. I lettered his cars and his store front window as well.
