Nice stuff, Dog. I think the photo in Post 1614 was taken at the old Fairgrounds Motor Speedway in Louisville in 1961 and was part of the Life collection. I'm in there trying to help turn the car back over.
Hi folks, been out of state for a couple of months. I hope to get caught up soon and start posting again. Looks like I need to go back a few pages and check out what was posted while I was gone.
Wow, look how nicely prepared these cars are! Real slick. This must be a pic from the beginning of the season. I dig the Marlin!! Joel
Holy ****! That Marlin is the ****, maybe it was what got Penske motivated to run the Matador some years later.
........................................................................................................ I understand that the meeting of the Geargia Auto Racing Hall of Fame ***oication and you with your collection came out well. On behalf of Mr Bell and the members of GARHoF we would like to Thank You for your time and energy... Bobby...
Here is a fresh find. This car raced at Natural Bridge Speedway in Va. It was driven by Lyle Alpin. He raced it in 1970 & 1971. Lyle said he won 3 features each year. Might anyone out there have a picture of this car during its heyday or maybe in victory lane? Any photos would be a geat help, thanks John. Please email or 717-645-0440.
We are going to try to get something together up here in Blairsville around the first of August and have a burnch (like 10-12:00) and try to get some of the old local racers to come. By doing it early like that maybe everyone will have time to get ready to race that night if needed. I have another box or two in my ba*****t. They are water damaged but they have the roll and frame numbers on the back so we could get some reprinted later. I am still thinking about having my negatives scanned. I am runing wide open right now but will try to post some more in the near future. Falconred
Pretty sure that's Pete Hamilton in Cotton Owens #6 and Richard Brooks in Mario Rossi's #22. If it's Daytona, that would be 1971. I was there. That little engine was screaming.
Nope, thats East Alabama 1973, We did, however take a Chevelle to Smokey Mtn about that time that besides not being the Fairlane, was nearly identical. Sam McQuagg JR
There's a crew. L to R. Big Sam, Lynn Cook(Dyno), Sam JR, brother Mark & Jay Syfrett. c. 1979. Oh and that other thing, built that for the local raft race. 3 10sp. bicycles driving a mercruiser outdrive. Too Heavy, plus it sank. LOL
From the looks of that, probably Valdosta's Thunderbowl. Big Sam leading the way in Leverne Kendricks #90.
Dyno's Rides. #92 affectionately known as the Sh!t box. We took that thing to Montgomery one Sunday. Dyno got hit in the left rear going into #3 and about 50 pounds of Georgia red clay dropped on the asphalt. One of the officials came over to me and said "maybe y'all oughta load up and take that thing back to Georgia".
