Hi all, has anyone tryed the millermatic 140 autoset. I seen this new feature that they have and it is supposed to make all the settings automatic for you. :)

I have had one for about 9 months now. The autoset feature is pretty decent, however it intermitantly trips my 20 amp circuit. I ran a 30 amp circuit with #10 wire and run the 140 welder and the 375 Extreme plasma cutter on it.

We have a little bigger 220V Millermatic, great machine, and the autoset works fine in most instances, but I find myself using manual settings MOST ALL the time.

Thanks for the replys, I am still new to the welding scene and would consider another machine when I saw the miller auto set series. I thought its a pretty cool feature and would be great for the novice like me.

  5. I have an auto-set 140 and like it so far. I have used it manually many times though. I've had it for about a year and have had no problems with it yet. I would buy one again, but probably the next size up. It's not much more $.

its not worth the extra money. Its not hard to set up the welders in the first place, you set your amperage to where you want and adjust your wire speed untill you get the perfect sound, or at least that's how i was taught.

  7. I've found my Miller Autoset works VERY well. Set it and forget it usually.

I was "value shopping" when I bought my Millermatic, after internet shopping for a while I bought mine at a local shop. I had decided on Miller befor going to the shop based on my best guess as far as price/dependability/value/American Made ---- and bought it.

I "found" the automatic setting after I had the machine for a couple of months...

Duh,,, anyway I think AUTO setting or not, it is a VERY Nice little machine that has proved to be economical to own, AND very dependable.

I have the Millermatic 180. Ive found that it is best to use manual settings when welding old sheetmetal. The lowest autoset setting makes the old Ford metal disappear.

I have one. I usually don't bother with the auto set. kind of silly feature I think.

I've used auto set welders a few times and always had to fine tune the machine to how I weld. Everyone has a different style and technique when welding and you need to set the machine to how you weld and what you're welding. That said, I don't think you can go wrong with a miller

Miller doesn't offer the non auto set stuff any more. I had the 140 for not even a year and started finding more and more projects that a 110v machine couldn't handle. Reach a little deeper and buy a 220v machine. You won't regret it.

  13. I've got the 180, if you can swing it buy the 180 over the 140

  14. I'll second that! I have the 175, no auto set. I love it.

  15. I have the 180. I had an early Miller 110 machine. The difference with 220 is amazing. The Autoset feature works great for me. The bonus was the included sheet metal gauge!
