the one my father always regreted was not buying the "New York to Paris" Thomas Flyer. His neighbor (it turned out) was one of the drivers.

nothing real big, but a couple weeks ago i was at pick-a-part on half off day and i found a old aluminum offy four barrel intake for a sbc. They wanted $11 for it and i only had $9.50.

  4. My cousin had a 35 Ford 3 window cp. It was just painted black with red wire wheels and new red interior. It had a 50 Merc. mill with 3 speed floor shift. He needed money fast and said I could buy it for 700 bucks this was back in 1957 and i was in hi-school and had no money. The cp. sold in 2 days and i never seen it since.

The 37 Chev convert I had to sell to pay bills when Dad died.
The perfect 41 Zeypher 3 window w/62K miles on it for $2500-ran so quiet you couldn't hear it if the hood was closed. No money.
The chopped 32 2 door body for $300 that I just bought and then had to pay taxes.
A great 48 Diamond T pickup that I had to sell to pay bills (again).
The perfect, blue and white 53 Olds 2 door hardtop I traded my 27 RPU for and had to sell to pay for the new septic system.
    I think I see a pattern here?

My 55. I had blown the engine and then got my draft notice and a guy I knew asked about it. I sold it for $100.00. 1966 I think.

The one that haunts me twenty years later. Ny neighbor built a 1955 210 2 door sedan gasser style back in the early 70's and pretty much left it untouched until his death in the early '90's. 327 with a Tarantula intake and lots of RPM mated to a Muncie. Cheater slicks on chrome reverses. Gold with a black top and black "V" stripes on the hood and trunk. When Charlie passed away, his folks sold it for $2500 or thereabouts. I had too many irons in the fire and couldn't swing it. I just pray that this nice time capsule was not turned into some gay pro touring or pastel hued ride.

  10. OHHHHhhhhhhhhhhh...that struck a note. I had a similar deal where I blew the 327 in my 57 BelAir on a test drive...the guy had $1000 ready to pay for the car....he walked away and I eventually sold the car with blown motor for $300..

Two cars I regret selling. A running & functioning 31 Model A dump truck ( boy I could use that thing right now) and a perfect 57 ford rag top that I bought when I was 16 for (1966) $15.00 with a seized 312 that I turned over for a quick $100.00. Hell I was 16 and needed the money for my 57 bird.

  12. Just look at my avatar;that, along with a nice collection of Max Wedge parts are what I miss the most. Circumstances dictated the selling, doesn't make it any easier to think about 22 years later.

Lord, let me hit the lottery;I'll even stop saying bad things(albeit true) about my second ex-wife. Just enough to go B-body hunting...

A couple of weeks later I see it in Perth Amboy... with a dent in the rear quarter AFTER he sold it !!!

I inherited a 34 Ford Model Y and we decided that the shipping was worth more than the car. DUMB!

In 1989 I passed up a 1970 Dodge Charger . Clean car, very little rust. My buddy bought it off of an older couple. He put in a built 383 that my other buddy sold to him. That engine had a lot of torque and broke motor mounts all the time...He was asking 3k back then.

Red on red 1965 Malibu Deluxe 2 dr. hdtp. with no engine or trans, it was originally a 327/300HP, 4 speed, bench seat with the factory 3.73 12 bolt posi still under it. Solid and straight, let it go for $300.00 in 1982.

  17. Back in the mid 80's I bought this fresh 426 Hemi engine and all the spare parts for $3,000. Sold off $2,500 worth of parts and then traded the engine for a dually Suburban. Now I really regret letting that engine slip away. I did get many years of use from the Suburban though.

Cute chubby girl, cause I was afraid my friends would laugh.

  19. What, did you see her a few years later and find out she went on a diet and now had a smokin' hot body?

I'm in a get rid of crap mode this year, so I've been selling things I know I'll wish I hadn't sometime down the road. Have sold off just about all of my American Flyer trains, for example. Some of my model car stuff, too. Nothing particularly spectacular, but stuff I spent a lot of time finding.

Two, count 'em, two NOS 427 Cobra chassis with suspension , steering, and serial numbers, for a total of $600 !!
I found them in Detroit, the remnants of an ill-conceived electric- car prototype operation.
I was unemployed at the time(1971) and didn't have a place to store them, so I let a buddy of mine buy them. What was I thinking ? (Pound forehead with heel of right hand)

a perfect pair of 54 packard taillights for 50 bucks

  23. My second 57 Bel Air - a sedan with a mild lowering job. I was the first person to have ever paid for the car. The grandfather of the guy I got the car from won it new in a poker game...

A 33 Chevy coipe I bought for $35 at an auction. Some yoyo in a motor home from texas saw it sticking out of the back of my garage and gave me 5 nice crisp yankee $100's for it and u-hauled it out.

    A 68 Riviera GS I traded for a snowmobile.

A 57 four door that I traded for a T-bucket that I traded for a 63 Acadian two door that I sold it to the idiot kid next door......He ran it into the back of a truck exactly two weeks later.

The height of 'dough-headness' though was a fellow I know that parted out a documented Nickey Camaro for the LS-6 and four gear.............

  24. About 18 months ago, me and my dad got offered a 29 dodge tourer for $0. Was complete too.

Dad said mum would kill us and that there 'was not enough room at home'

1955 F100, reasonably straight and complete with running 223 6, needing only a carb. Bought her in 1992 for $300, sold her later after I had too many projects and nowhere to keep em all. I could kick my own ass sometimes for that.

About 12 years ago;I was at a local car show,a guy trailered in a beat up 34 Ford coupe hot rod with a poor running Buick Nailhead. It had a 3 speed stick tranny,no fenders,a little rot and a rodent invested interior. But overall the car could be easily saved. It was 3000 bucks including the crappy trailer, the guy offered to tow it to my place too.I dicked around thinking over the deal, went back 1/2 hour later to agree to the price and the car on the trailer was being towed away by a smart buyer.

I would reply to this but arguing with someone on a message board is like winning the special olympics. even if I won I would still be retarded. so I'll ask questions:
how many other people have you bought stuff from for "friend" prices and then turn around and sold the car you put them on. how many of your club members helped you build your sedan, for free, and how much of your profit did they get when you sold it?

  28. Did this car show signs of having had a tree grow up between the bumper and grille?

I know where a '34 coupe with a nailhead was somehow stolen in the dead of night despite the tree, many years ago. No one's seen it since.
