I just asked the guy whom I bought the car from and he confirmed that yes, originally this car was a metallic Blue and then Burgundy and spent most its life in Fresno then Chowchilla and then Madera. This is news to me, he didnt tell me this when I asked him before..hmm..

Slowly but surely I will make this thing look right..Remember I'm messing with three cars at once right now.My Black 63 Max Wedge is top priority as I want to get it ready for some Track action this Summer.

Loose the swamp buggy rear tires and it will be perfect... be neat to see any pics of it in the other colors or configurations.

I totally agree with you on the rear tires, I hate em! Yeah no one seems to have any pics of it from before as of yet.Would be very cool to try and get it back to its early 60's appearance.

Hell I should talk. Mine has been down for maybe 5 years changing engines.
Yours could be a show stopper. Think Ivo.

Years ago that car had whitewall cheater slicks and reverse wheels.....the naihead had 2x4 and stock exhaust manifolds. It was burgandy and it would be cool to put back the way it was....it is a survivor not a clone or lookalike.

The Previous Owner emailed me and told me the guy who had it when it was Burgundy abused the car, engine and tranny were wasted in the car.It had a stroked and poked Nailhead in it before that had about 364 Cubes. But its just a little 322 now, 2x4's unless they were two WCFB's would be too much for this engine. The Two Rochesters make about 600 CFM which is 220 more CFM than the single WCFB had.It runs like a raped ape up to 4500 RPM because the valves on these engines are a joke. But I might get it back to the Burgundy or even Metallic Blue..I'm a sucker for Metallic Blue..Royalshifter, Thanks for your Help and info. Its a bit odd that the Previous Owner didnt tell me all this until I just emailed him today and asked him.Learn something new everyday...

Cool car.......old hotrods are cool, regardless if they are returned to their "original" state or "updated" to suit the new owner....as long as it stays tasteful that is...hehe.

I am 99% positive I owned this car in 1985 or 86. It was metalflake blue, the nailhead ran great (The guy I sold it to ran it hard and cracked a piston) It had stock exhaust manifolds, 39 Ford 3 speed with a Fenton shifter and reversed Merc wheels on the rear. The dash insert was wood when I got it and I had a local machine shop make the aluminum one that is sitting in it now. That was my dead give away! I am sure I have some pictures of the car at that time, I will try to dig them up. The story of the car being first built in 1961 is TRUE. Kenny.

I agree with Sinister. It must be real cool to have a tasteful hot rod with history that goes back to the early 60's. Mine went back to the 70's and it was not tasteful.
I'm realy likin' the story about your T.

My car was built in 53 in Fresno and it spent all of it's life there, although mostly in storage, until I found it a few years ago. Mine is a 17 T Touring with a 322. Do any of you Fresno guys remember this car? It was pale yellow when it was in Fresno. It still has its CA black plate from the early sixties. The pictures are as it was when I got it.

To each his own, I guess, I think the vertical windshield and the cheater slicks are two of the coolest things on it.

  23. I'm with Royalshifter...loose the dumb headers and put it back to it's early 60's configuration.
Not many survivors around. They, and their original builders/owners deserve respect.

Update: I took the block out of the front spring,re did the front brake lines, and sanded off the "Professor Fate" that was painted by the last owner.Plans are to paint it back to the Metallic Blue it once was in the 60's.

Is it using an adapter for the Borg Warner T-89B 3 Speed? I have a '54 Super with a rebuilt 322 Nailhead, but the factory Dynaflow 2 Speed. I'd love to go to a 3 speed, but I've heard you need an adapter and to swap out the rear end and drive shaft.

This was my favorite T when I was a teen (Sep 69 R&C). Probably lose the lanterns though. I'm a sucker for Delta Drives. If anyone has one, I'll trade you my wife.

Bill Cushenbery did the glass body and paint, Roy Gilbreath did the interior, which has the neat verticle steering I like (this steering is out of a 55 Nash Metropolitan). Big names for just a T??

I was just thinking, that girl is probably almost 70 now :p
