I know what you mean 40Studedude but you have to try to see if it works, then if it doesnt try something else. Theres always a solution it just might take a few times to find it. Ebbspeed the 331 motor mounts bolt to the front corner of the engine. About where the fuel pump is on the chevy motor.
I am looking at modifying the stock motor mounts . WE will have to wait and see what I come up with.
No problem Caractacus let me know if you need anything else.
_Charles_ your car looks great and the ac will be nice.

Thanks for lunch! I had a good time and it was a nice ride out to your place. If you come up with some patterns for those mounts let me know, I'm sure we can whip something up.

"I want to use the stock shifter . Does anyone make an adapter to the turbo 400 ??"

Lokar makes a kit for column shifters. Look on E-Bay, that's where I found mine.

If you are still having exhaust problems....I put a 351 cleveland in a fairmont and i ran the front tube into the header tube beside it (being just a street car i didn't think it would matter) Then capped off the bottom,it work good like that for me....
Just a thought...Great tech and pics....Thanks for posting

The headers are at the welders to be functional again. I found out that face sheilds work REALLY good. I was cutting of a piece off the block to clear the new motor mounts that I am making . The cutting disc dissentgrated caught me about the bridge of my nose. I only came away with a slightly bloodied nose. no marks on the face . It would of been pretty ugly. there was a nice scratch on the shield.

I got the headers back today. drivers side fits great. I had enough tubes to mock up for a good fit . on the p***enger i told him to follow the other tubes. he got alittle close to the solidnoid so I will problaly have to go with a mini starter. the area below the x member where the exhaust goes thru i had to cut out because the collecter was setting on it . I will weld a new piece below after the exhaust is done. with the headers in place i can now finish up the motor mounts. The p***enger side is almost done. all but one piece is cut out

Had all the same issues when I did my 60 Cad. Glad to see you were able to work through it all. You're gonna love the BBC in that car.

WOO HOO more progress is made today.I finally finished mocking up the motor mounts . it took me a couple of designs before i found what I liked. I ground down the casting nub on the block so I didnt have to notch the motor mount plate and i was able to use the stock motor mounts but I trimmed them down. The nice thing is that i did it with cutoff wheel and jig saw. The mount was made from 1/4 " steel.

I HAVE TO SAY A BIG THANK YOU TO THE HAMB. Twice I had help from guys on here. First THE TRUANT who welded up the mounts and a beautiful job I must say. I want to live in your garage . lots of cool cars and all the tools a car builder to need :). Second to R8ODECAY who offered to get me the fuel pump I need . What an AWESOME SITE.

Well my list is still pretty big for getting things done. I am waiting for my fuel pump, trans cooler, lokar shifter adapter. Just received oil cooler and fuel regulater. I had to get a mini starter one of the header tubes was right against the starter solidnoid. I have to make up new mount ***embly for the radiator and coolers. Cut the spark plug wires and mount coil. plumb fuel lines pump and regulater. I am also going to wire in a ford starter solidnoid. plumb in oil pressure guage line. manual choke cable, and throttle linkage .

Some of these parts took awhile for me to get I had to sell some other stuff to get money for it and ive bought some things 2 to 3 times to get it to work. but I think theres light at the end of the tunnel :)

Well I have the altenator mounted in permanent. Going with the short waterpump I had to cut the box for the blower. The altenator is where the box was so I will put the blower like a 52 Caddy is. In hine site I should have left the long water pump on it would have been alot cheaper and I would not have had too cut the blower box. But no worries another thing done and moving forward.

The motor needs to be positioned first and use a long tail shaft ******. the trans mount is in the same position hydromatic and the turbo transmission . the big block is about the same lenght as the 331 so the small block will sit back aliitle farther back. block up the front of the engine so that the balancer and oil pan clear the crossmember.on the stock motor mounts trim them alittle at a time. you wount be able to use the mechanical fuel pump and you might have to grind down the casting nub on the block. I used wood first to get the initial shape then transfered to metal I did it all with basic hand tools. the the plate that mounts to the engine was 1/4 inch steel. I shaped everything with a jig saw and a cutoff wheel. If you take your time its real simple and looks great

I am using energy suspension trans mount which has 3 bolt holes the outer holes are narrower that the stock hole so you can drill the center hole and use that.

Well its almost been a month since I have been able to work on the Caddy . I have the fuel system plumbed in. I hard lined everything from the tank to the carb with 3/8 line. I ended up buying a new holley fuel pump. The pump from the pay it forward was set up for rubber fuel line and was going to be a pain to convert it to a n fittings. so progress is moving slowly.

The transmission mounts are completely done. I flipped the mounting bracket upsidedown trimmed of the middle tab . the trans was hitting on the floor. in the normal position. The Truant came over on saturday with his plasma cutter and removed some of the fram metal in the x member. the yoke was really close so we made some more room. Started on the radiator bracket. I have the frame and bottom mounting point done. I couldnt finish this til the trans was done. I also got another rearend out of the truck that my tranmission was in. a nice 12 bolt with 3.42 gears .All the seals were leaking in the Caddy rearend. I will have a solid rear and make this thing reallly fun to drive. I will post some pictures tomorrow
