just got back from g g 's nashville last night. 2 weeks in a row with REALLY HOT WEATHER. this may be why it pissed me off so much, but i was setting there watching the cars leave with my truck setting behind me. about 20 feet,it is for sell and had a sign on it. i hear "wham", some guy opens the hood looks at the motor then slams the hood. and i mean SLAMS. well i look around and there were some guys settin in front of it in the shade, they point to the guy walking off . that really ticked me off. i start after him then figure no need in chasing him down causing a seen. hour later i hear click some other guy has opened the door looked in then shuts it. well if you don't shut the door all the way the latch locks up and you have to take the panel off to get in. "i know i should fix it". but i guess what i'm saying is i would never wlk up and do the above to SOMEONE ELSE'S CAR , without asking. am i wrong for feeling this way? i try to use facts instead of opinions but whats you folks opinions on this?

If you're not serious about selling it, remove the sign. If you are serious about selling it, be glad you had a couple people interested enough to take a closer look.

You invited the behaviour with the sign, and by not being immediately beside the car to show it to a buyer.

i know what you mean and i agree except that if it's for sale, it kind of gives someone a p*** to open it up and "check it out"

gotta agree with these guys...If it's sitting there waiting to be sold it needs to be checked out (oh yea...fix the door if it's an easy fix..it will help sell the truck!)

I gotta say that just because there is a "for sale" sign on it doesn't give any body the right to touch it, open doors, the hood or any thing else with out permission (next thing they will be taking it for a test drive). It just shows a lack of respect, imagine if I walked down the street and started opening the doors and popping the hoods on cars that had a for sale signs on them, I'd probably end up in Jail. No, if you want to look at the car, ask for permission! But at the same time it's up to you to be close by your car so if somebody wants to take a closer look they can get a hold of you.

I agree. They should always have permission to touch some one elses car.

nope your in the right...if im looking to buy a car and nobody is around ill call the ## on the for sale sign!! and then the OWNER can open stuff for me just in case something like the door latch thing happens!!! just stupid people...

  9. Or put a cell phone number on it and have your cell phone with you if you're not right there with the car. Unknowing people can do unintended damage--for instance on Henrietta the '38 Ford pickup, someone who tries to close the hood not knowing how the hood supports on old Fords work can bend the hood. Gotta lift it up slightly for the catch on the hood support to release, then let it down. Push straight down on it and instant kink in hood.

I've seen folks actually get in cars at shows. I suppose they think it's just a big used car lot, eh? When I asked this guy once what he was doing sitting behind the wheel of someone else's car, he was outraged and astounded that I was concerned about what he was doing and told me to piss off because it wasn't any of my business.

A buddy had an entire family in his car once - he caught them all red handed listening to "Dad" explain to his wife and kids how the cars were in the old days and that Grandpa had one just like the one they were sitting in. Stay close to your prize ride. Gary

ah yeah, if i have something for sale, it's still MINE. don't go crawling all over it before talking to me.

a for sale sign on a house is not an invitation to come right in and make yourself at home. neither is a for sale sign on a car an invitation to go opening doors and hoods and treating it as your own. it's an invitation to talk with the owner about an exchange. nothing more.

    Easy Solution ::

Write on the Sign ""PLEASE DO NOT OPEN DOORS"" and have the Hood open for inspection.

Its a simple deal, If its FOR SALE make it easy for people to check it out.

We all know here that the General Public has NO RESPECT for other people property, ESPECIALLY if they do not Own some sort of Vintage Vehicle.

You're behaving like you're on a car lot and *****ing because the "show spectators" are doing the same.

Oh well. At least it's somebody else's fault. That's all that matters

    We have a winner

i would never imagine getting into or opening up someone elses car, the furthest i could i magine would be a feel around the lips for mud, if it is for sale, and there is no apperent owner around to ask, banging on stuff and sticking magnets on stuf is un acceptable

Forsale sign or not, I always ask the owner before I open the car. I always wondered why people put up little gate across running boards on vintage trucks at car show untill I brought a 40 Ford pick up to a show and had kids climbing all over it.
Irritating to say the least. They make leashes for kids dont they?

You see/look with your eyes, not with your hands.................didnt we all learn that in Kindergarten? Even if the vehicle is for sale you should still ask for permission to inspect it further.

Several years back I was going to go to the Yakima WA Trolley Run. I had just come down with pneumonia and being the hard core rodder that I was, nothing was stopping me. The 40 needed an oil change so I took it over to one of the Quick Lube places. I had always changed my own oil but just wasn’t up to it. Just when the young kid finished my job I heard the hood slam shut. I immediately asked him WTF he was doing. He said you had to slam the hood on these old cars to get them to shut. I remember screaming something to him about the only reason they wouldn’t shut was because of some *** hole like him had slammed it and bent the f**k out of things. By that time the manger had come out to the work area to see what was going on. He offered me a free oil change to clam me down. I told him to shove it and I would never be back as long as he had workers with that at***ude. I made the trip to Yakima and some how lived thru the pneumonia and the hot dry week end. I do remember having to stop for the night on the way home and sleeping sitting up on the floor of the tent trailer just to be able to breath. The only thing that saved me was the one of those old window tube water coolers that I had installed in the window for moisture

Nobody should be opening doors or hoods on a car that's not theirs.Who cares if its for sell i would never do it.This is why a lot of nice shops don't like letting peeps in to look at cars.

  22. For sale or not folks need to be respectful. I have the same feeling about those who drive about looking for so called finds. Dont tresp*** without permission dont post pictures on the internet without permission. Actually it is unlawful to take or post pictures of other folks private property without a written waiver in a lot of places. Be respectful ask permission first. Its not too much to ask. I just think it's a sign of the times. Most people have no respect for other people's property. Anyone with some manners would ask permission first.
But unfortunatly people with manners are few and far between now days.

I was at a car show one time and this drunk guys go up to my car and before I could stop him he opens the door and hits my other car next to it with the door. I yell at him and he doesn't have a clue. Chipped the paint on the door. I was pissed. So I made a phone call and the cops were waiting for him when he left the show and he was arrested for drunk driving.

Nope, you find the owner and ask him to show you the engine and interior. If it ain't yours, do not touch it unless invited to do so.

The fact that it is for sale should have no effect. What it comes down to is , wether it's for sale or not, the fact of the matter is it's not yours, so keep your grubby hands off without permission.

With the sign in the window people will and should look a little closer... BUT that does not give them the right to open doors and hood until owner or representattive is there

sadly this is logic in todays generation, and my generation helped raise them. shame on the parents and their grown children who don't have enough common cents to not respect what isn't theirs. if we truely need a sign to tell them not to open the doors, how sad is that! at least my neck is getting really strong from shaking my head so much.

I was shopping for a truck a few years ago and spotted one at a show that I thought fit my tastes. I asked the guy sitting there if it was for sale and he said it was. I asked if it was ok if I looked it over and he told me to go ahead. I had crawled under it to check out the rockers and opened both doors to inspect the bottoms of them and it all looked great. I was on my knees pulling the rubber mat back (no it wasn't glued!) so I could inspect it where the kick panels meet the floor when I heard this voice "Hey! What are you doing!?" Turned out that the guy that told me that the truck was for sale didn't own it...it belonged to his buddy that had no intention of selling it. The instigator was rolling laughing and the trucks owner and I had a lil chuckle after we both got over being emberr***ed and pissed off! Ended up hanging around and talking trucks with him for a while before I eased on out of there.

As far as I can tell this is like walking across the intersection without looking because you have the "WALK" sign lit. Sure you're in the RIGHT but being right don't make you any less squished when you get run over.

So if it's strictly a matter or RIGHT and WRONG - then simply you are RIGHT.
HOWEVER if you want your car not "F-d" with then sadly you are wrong - people are idiots - your only mistake was not recognizing that fact. ****s, but it is what it is.

  30. Ya if you do have a for sale sign on it...it might attract some dumb ***es to touch it. But I'd never touch it without permission...now as for slamming the hood like that...that is never OK
