Hey all you gals and guys,

I began an online ladies automotive magazine in March called LIA Magazine-Ladies in Autosports. I can use any input any of you have as to what you'd like to see in the magazine. Please help me out as to the type of articles you'd want put up on the website. I have events/happenings, features, how to's, and who's who sections for now. Do you know of any gals that need to be acknowledge or recognized for their ability, hard work or support that they give to the auto industry scene. Let me know what you think. Thanks a bunch.

    Your LIA Lady,
    Julia

You've been in the business long enough to know what's up Julia. All the basic tenets apply- cover the women who have found success and earned respect throughout the industry and get their stories on the pages. Their stories will all be unique and can surely provide inspiration to others. There are SEMA women's groups, DRAW, and other such organizations to find subjects to profile. Beyond the great female race drivers there are successful businesswomen, legendary racetrack gals who earned respect (like Linda V. and Jungle Pam) and young ladies who are forging their own respectable paths (like the gal who did the traditional hot rod movie and documented its progress here on the HAMB).

If you need anything, let me know. I'd like to work with ya on this somehow.

    Thanks Sandybeaches for your ideas.

I do realize I'm in for some hard work. That isn't anything new to me. I was raised up and taught all about hard work. I've done quite a lot of hard work doing freelance photography and writing for the magazines for the last 20 years and sometimes I still have to prove that my work is worthy to be featured. I've done a lot of hoop jumping through the years. I know the style that I like and what type of things I'd like to see from a woman's perspective. I don't mean any disrespect to anyone, however, I diriven down the road/path to the fullest and it is time for me to take a different path that is fulfilling. I need to move on...

Are there any particular step by step trouble shooting that you are looking for?

    Again, thanks for your thoughts...

    Julia

Great idea, besides featuring gals of history, have some articles featuring the gals across the country that are really into Traditional cars. There are quite a few right on this site. We have the same mind-set as the guys, there just arent as many of us yet:)

    Thanks Scott,

Are you still with the Street Machine Club magazine? You have so many good ideas. I have tried to contact the SEMA women's group, however, haven't had any luck yet. I need to try to get in touch with them again. I completely forgot about the DRAW group. Isn't there a gal that puts on a show that is associated with John Force? I can't think of her name at the moment. I'm wanting to get the information out there to other women about: Women CEO's, engineers, fabricators, welders, women of top fuel, metal workers, illustrators, company owners-such as Ms. Ladina of Flaming River, Indy Racing, women in various facets of the auto industry, etc. There are more women involved then what most people realize. Us women have a harder time tooting our own horn. Now is the time for us to come to the forefront and be recognized for our endeavors and hard work. Send me an email as to the specifics in how you'd like to be involved. liamag@mindspring.com or asch@mindspring.com.

Thanks so much for your ideas.

Great idea. IMHO, I think the blog is the way to go. I think you need more links to top car sites/blogs, who would list your site. Maybe ask for submissions from women in the industry. I like how one can go to drivers blogs on the NHRA site. I mean you’re the pro, I’m just a car guy. My girlfriend and I went to a car cruise sat. nite and found several woman owners who had great stories about their passion for hot rod and customs. Best, Slim

    32Gal,

You are so right. I'm wanting to feature women that are into the traditional hot rods. Many of them tell me that there isn't a story or that the story isn't interesting at all. My comment back is I bet when you and your friends are sitting around that you have all kinds fun and interesting stories. Let's get those stories out there to share with the readers of LIA Magazine.

What shows do you plan to attend this summer. Maybe we could hook up and you could tell me your story and I could do a feature shoot on your ride.

This is where I'm scheduled to be this summer:
Heartland Nationals - Des Moines, IA (July 3rd - July 5th)
Iowa to Ohio Goodguys Cruise (July 6th - July 9th)
Goodguys Nationals - Columbus, OH (July 10th - July 12th)
NSRA Street Rod Nationals - Louisville, KY (August 5th - August 9th)
    E'ville Frog Follies - Evansville, IN (August 28th - August 30th)
    Mac Tools U.S. Nationals - Indianapolis, IN (September 4th - September 7th)
Chicagoland Nationals - Joliet, IL (September 18th - September 20th)
Nostalgia Nationals - Bowling Green, KY (October 16th - October 18th)
SEMA - Las Vegas, NV (November 3rd - November 6th)

Let me know what you think. I'd love to hear from you.
Thank you so much for your idea about showcasing the tradition women hot rodders. Great idea!

    Your LIA Lady,
    Julia

Unfortunatly i wont be in any of those areas this year. I would however love to "tell my story" ,, my involvement in Traditional Hot Rods, how thrilled i was during the build of my 32,and how my life-long dream has become fullfilled when i finally got behind the wheel of my Roadster.

Feel free to contact me at bluzgal28@yahoo.com if interested.

    Slim Pickens,

I couldn't agree with you more on the blog. That is a sure way to get women to network, such as Ladies on the HAMB. I've not had this much interaction with other women except face to face. This is absolutely great! I have a blog where I currently submit the topic so that women can start talking. I've asked for submission of topics so I could put it up on the blog, however, no one has taken me up on the offer. There is a link to the blog on my website... http://liamag.com/ ----- here's the blog url ..... http://blog.liamag.com/.

That is the beauty about this industry...all of us have a personal passion for the sport or we wouldn't be doing it in the first place. My passion started out by photographing the beautiful masterpieces. I got so excited on how I could get the car to literally jump out at you on the page. Each person has a story to tell about their adventures, cars, business, friends. Even the vehicles, businesses have their own story to tell you just have to put your ear to the wall or pavement and listen real carefully. In the evenings at the hotels is one of my favorite times because the stories really begin to come out from the woodwork, so to speak.

Now that I'm telling you how I feel, just doing a story on a bunch of women sitting around and sharing tales would be a neat feature. What do you all think????

    Julia

Again yer the pro, Maybe an ongoing column on real local women across the country or wherever talking about their rides. As much I love history, I need the visuals, maybe a monthly contest for photos of women and their rides. Best, Slim

For those of you who want to see my work feel free to visit my website on the hubgarage. It is called - jasch (aka: J & J's) Garage. The url link is http://hubgarage.com/. In the search box put my garage name and the link to my garage will show up towards the bottom of the page. There will be a showcase of several different vehicles I've shot for the magazines, plus my graphic abilities (I obtained a computer graphic's degree in 2005 -- in my spare time, ha ha), and some magazines that published my work.

Hi Julia, nice to see you on here, it's Megan with the black '53 Chevy. We seem to be missing each other at all of the events we've both attended this year. I'll be at GG Columbus for sure, hope to catch up then. PM me and we'll figure something out.

    Good luck with the mag!

Yes, lets meet up at GG Columbus. I'll send you an email. By the way how was your trip out west. You sounded like you had a blast. I've been as far as Oklahoma. The magazines have asked me to visit on several occasions. The timing never seemed to work out. Hope all went well for your trip. I was followiing you on twitter. :D

How about an article about ladies freeing a stuck flathead and what they used to un-stick it. Or about ladies banging the dents out of a fender-is it better to hammer on or off dolly for a lady? Or how about an article about how ladies troubleshot their bump steer problem or got rid of front end oscillation. Maybe you could do an article about ladies wiring up their cooling fan to a relay and how a ladies' schematic looks. Perhaps an article on what gauge of steel ladies would choose for their roll bars and why. Do ladies prefer 4130 or mild steel. Why? What are the advantages of each one, from a ladies’ perspective?

I couldn't agree with you more. I've heard all about the ability that Megan has from many people in the industry. Another person to have an article about is Denise, don't you think so??

    ;) :) :D
    wsdad,

These are excellent ideas! Do you have any particular person in mind for these articles? This is exactly what I'm wanting to write about, from the perspective of the lady and how they'd do a certain technique. All of us have our own way of getting from point A to point B, all that matters is the end results is what the person wants. How we get there doesn't matter as long as the quality is what it should be to be safe for the sport. That is just my opinion...

This is a great idea! Id love articles of ladies cars and the work they have done on their cars. Tech articles and women involved in the early hot rodding/ Kustom days would be great too. Maybe even interviews with the wives/girlfriends/daughters of the old Racers and Kustomisers. Load knows those ladies put up with alot and have tons of stores to tell.
Do you plan on coming out to the west coast? I do alot of hands on work and have a few cars myself. : )

    Sherry,

Yes, we want to come out to the west coast sometime in the future. We currently don't have anything set in stone yet for any shows. What type of hands-on-work are you talking about that you do yourself? LIA Magazine does accept submission of readers/viewers stories and photos. We are planning on attending the SEMA Show will you be going to that show? I really like your ideas especially interviewing the wives of the older racers. I agree that they'd have great stories to tell all of us. Thank you for all your great ideas!

    Julia,
The more I think about it the more I would love to see articles/interviews of the wives/daughters of the ol timers. Maybe even articles of the ol' "Track Girls" and "Flag Girls" the list goes on and on.
I have a pretty good idea of what they are going thru.My neighbors have kindly nicknamed me the garage widow. Me and the hubby have no kids (yet) and it might sound weird to some but cars are a strong foundation of our relationship. Its truly an honest hobby and lifestyle. It encurrages hard work, talent and team work. The last car we built took 16 months and alot of sacrafice. We gave up many weekends, holidays ect. Stoped working on the house in the middle of a remodel.I even gave up the big 3-0 bday to save the $ to finish the hotrod. Im not going to say it was easy. Sometimes it was down right hard, and to make it worse alot of girls think your crazy so it can be hard to find someone to vent to who understands. In the end it was all worth it. as far as what hands on stuff I can do..Well pretty much anything. The hubby refuses to do things for me, If I want to do something he shows me how then I'm on my own. It has taught me alot. I have a better appreciation for good work and have a keen eye for bad work. I think the perfect example of a true hotrod girl is:
    1. You know every part on your car and how it works
    2. Getting up super early to get your spot at the car shows, by noon you feel like youve been hit by a bus and the models who slept in and took there time getting ready are just arriving. Ya they get to take pictures with the cars but you get to DRIVE away in one!
    3. Ya you COULD buy a $300 purse, but rather spend the $ scoring parts at swapmeets.
    4. If you toss and turn at night trying to decide on a color combo for your car.

Im curious to see what other girls could add to this list..: )
Anyhoo Julia again I think this is a great idea! Cant wait to see it all together~

    Sherry,
I work in a fine fabric store selling woolens, silks, and special occasion fabrics. I have to keep my nails painted so the perma-grease doesn't show. I can only imagine what goes through Bridezilla's head as I reach for the whitest silk charmeuse with nasty under my nails...
    :)
    Julia,
This concept is pretty darn fabulous! I would like to add that unless the model has built her own car and is posing with it, I don't want to see it. However, half-naked firefighters and or fabricators (male) would be quite all right. ;)
