Look, it's just like anything else in life… some folks just don't bother study something before they do it… some folks will just jump on a band wagon cause they want to feel that they fit in… Some folks try to push the limits of something, but fall short… etc… You can't… and will never be able to control that… So what's left? Get it right when you do it… and let the rest role off your back! You know a wild-ass cool flame job when you see one… so what's the problem?
I was at a show recently, there were 100-125 cars, when they gave out the awards there was a real ugly flame job that won "Best Flames" I ask one of the judges how they picked that one, he said it was the only car there with flames, I like flames, have since the first ones I saw in the early '60s, I don't care much for the ones that look like varicose veins though or the Tribal, not crazy about the "real fire" I like the more dare I say it "traditional" flames however I have seen some different colors used on just the right car with just the right color combo that work There was one I used to see around No. Cal. that had blue flames that was powered by natural gas that was kind of cool To me flames say hot rod, just like a forward rake and big and littles...
Here is a set of tanks I did for a Shovel Head last week, multi layer pearl ghost flames. Red, green ,and violet on a candy blue, 30 coats of clear to bury them. The front fender matches them also but I never was able to get photos of it, these were taken just before the guy picked them up to buff them out for me.
I don't know WHO'S car this is, but it's got the only flames that I've ever seen that I REALLY like...and would have on my car...
Those are "Real Flames" I am not a fan of them but it is fun watching them be put on. It is an art form in itself.......
Yeah I have always thought that myself. But funny thing about flames, I used to think Watson's "Sea Weed" style was yucky but now in my old age I really like them.
Well your off my Christmas list. We've had our PT since 2002 have over 133,000 miles not a lick of trouble. front pads, battery, tires. runs like a top, but I guess it's not "traditional" enough.
i disasgree. they have there place on rides. definatly not on kustoms. it takes skill to make them look like the real thing. but like traditional flames, fire can look like shit. but not all. its just gone through its peak. cuz everyone wanted to be a custom painter and the only thing they could actually pick up using an airbrush was fire. i did too, but ive progressed and dont really do much fire anymore. u lucked out, and chose one of the best flame guys for your layout on your car. vandemon has layout skills, ive made a ton of money airbrushing true fire on alot of different things. mine actually look real. not a bunch of random shapes amatures call fire.
mike lavallee dubbed it "tru fire" but its also called, real fire, fire, realistic fire, realistic flames and real flames. nothing wrong with what he called it.
Here's one of the best flame jobs I have ever seen on a truck. They are so realistic but traditional at the same time.
I still love them !! After building and painting the merc in 1977 . I still do them ,on my wifes tool box 2 years ago!
ive always loved flames and think they will always be in style. ive had many flamed cars and trucks, and bikes over the years.....got 'em on the willys currently. gota say bad bobs merc is an example of outstanding flames , as is the rickliffs job on the roadster in the early pages of the thread. skull
I hope not,,,I'm shooting a subtle flame job now. I've never owned a flamed car,,, there have never been any here to get burned out on.
