55 gasser at bowling green

At the HRR last week I saw a 55 chevy that the front had been lifted by welding two sets of spindles togeather. This may have been covered before ,anyone have a tech article on this. Sounds bad, but the car I looked at was very well done. Thinking about trying this myself.

 

I would like to see that myself,wasnt this one was it?

 

Sounds dangerous to me. It's kinda along the same lines as ball joint spacers.

 

Sounds like an old Lindberg/MPC Model kit that you could build either way.

I am like you I would like to see this but it sounds dangerous.....

 

Have you had experience with balljoint spacers?

 

just bought a lift kit from a donk supplier. they even have an adjustable one to set different ride hights. nice quality to. i will let you know how this works out.

 

DEFINATELY wasn't that one.....We built it from the best parts. If you looked at it real close, you wouldn't have made that comment.........

 

HELL NO! that is one of the finest 55 gassers around. Nothing on that one is half assed.

 

No I haven't, heard too many horror stories right here on this site to want to experience them. Have you used them? If so, I would like to know from someone who has used them if they actually work good.

 

The car Im talking about was black with tork thrusts , they had some ladder bars laying on the ground in front for sale.I got photos on my cell phone if I can figure out how to load them I will add to post.

 

Nope but Im buying a pair of the 2 inch aluminum ones from a friend.
One guy will say they work fine then the next guy says they are a death trap

 

Just depends on which one has better luck I suppose.

I got the picture of the orange one off of another post,
I dont know if this black one was built with ''The best parts''
but it looks good

 

back in the day 65 66 i had them on a 55 chevy they were called hikeups. mine were 4 inch a little machine work to put the two together it worked well, i know of a couple of cars here in okla that still has them on them, they move the wheel out a bit and usually sit a bit highr than a straight axle..

 

are they for a tri five chevy ? if so who are they

 

Looks like the front track width is WAY wide on that car and looks a little funny in my opinion... Probably just one good reason that it might be better to raise the front end using a different method if it has some sort of stacked spindles...

 

That's what we used to call them, "stacked spindles". It took two pair to make one set, and there were several ways to do it. Remember, the spindles are'nt cast iron, they're cast steel. More "weldable". I have a friend that has a set that are the best built ones I've seen. The good thing about them is, it got the car up, but did'nt make the ride harsh as the springs were'nt changed.
