I started today on tacking the chop back together. Now that all the important parts are lined up I'll have to pie cut different sections in order to line up the everything else.

Man, I'm not sure what I'm going to run. I'm thinking a 292 Y-Block but I keep going from that to a Nailhead to a despised 327 and right on back to the 292. I realized the car is evolving with all the talented hands that have been on it so I've got to put something worthy into powering it.

I'm trying to stay away from the Caddys... :D they're like the swine flew around here. :D

I got the passenger side all finished up. I still have to do the drivers side and the back of the chop, but I wanted to see this side all finished up.

Had the day off today so I went to SFSS and took some spy photos.

Got some more chop detail photos and I tested out the lower panel from Mac's and was pleased to see it fit really well. As well, I fitted a stock tank into Ionia's frame and it fits like a glove. The only issue is the tubes coming from the pick-up... which will be moved anyhow.

There's some good stuff coming soon, I'm pretty psyched.

Picked up a 292 Y-Block tonight, for $250. It's been sitting under a tarp for 18 years. Hey, it ran when he took it out of the truck! Hahaha. :D Besides needing a going through, it needs a pulley since the cast one is broken, a bell housing, dipstick, cap, coil, etc., etc. The ram horns look good, they alone make the deal worth it. So now the search is one for speed and dress up parts!

I'm psyched, love the sound of a Y-block!

Got the chop finished on the body this morning. Now we can start the process of getting it mounted to the frame.

What's wrong, you don't like that traditional wooden frame? Those are old logs! :D

I want that FRAME!!!!!! That chop is perfect. I wish I had you guys down the street so you could straighten up my body and get it close to that!

This is going to be a sweet ride, with a Y block too.

We messed around with the rake and stance we're looking for. As well, we did some homework on what size tires the coupe will run.

I've got a list of parts I need to get so this car can sit on the floor as a roller.

Anyhow, here are some detailed shots. The rake/stance that got both Chris and me fired up was stance number 4. Right now I'm so excited I can't think about anything else! :D

Let me know what you think.

  22. Lookin good guys! I'm diggin the last stance too. You'll prolly gonna have traction problems with that skinny rear tire though:D
    Nice work.

Chris you have done one hell of a job on that chop!! damn

FWIW, we build three degrees of rake into those frames, if you want more you can adjust it with the wheels and tires but the front and rear crossmembers take three degrees into account.

    Looks killer Brent.

Who needs bias ply, we're running corrugated!:D

Thanks man! Everything we've taken into consideration was based on springs and tires. That's the ballpark stance we're shooting for but things will be more concrete with a chassis set to roll. Also we tossed out the idea of 1" front channel and 3/4" rear. Not sure yet what'll happen, still in that planning stage.

Also, we're stealing a flooring idea from the green 32 you guys built. The coupe is slowly growing into the name "The Copy Cat Coupe" since there's major influences from Mr. Ford's coupe, Bass, Metalshapes, you fools (err fellas :D), Casny, Tardel, etc., etc.

  27. Take and post pictures of your body to frame mounting set up. That is something I will have to do shortly and you guys seem to know what you are doing.

Yeah, both Chris and I are adamant about documenting this build.

The really cool thing is what Ionia Hot Rod Shop did with the frame. All of the mounting holes have steel blocks welded beneath them so all that needs to be done (frame side) is to drill and tap. Certainly that is an extra perk you get with going with a shop like them.

The car needs subrails from front to back so they'll be fabricated, rather than buying replacements, to address a few ideas we've got coming down the pike.
