what Shifty said, plus do the interior in original type finish and style.

    Cool truck.

stick the hood on it. Change the colour of the wheels if you fancy a change and stick some white walls on it. Drive the balls off it. Looks almost perfect me.

Do what Axle said and detail the interior, and my opinion is to run bias-ply black walls all around. I'd probably go with Firestone Gum Dip Champions. No exterior paint work needed, cuz thats REAL patina.

Well, its your truck so do what ever you would like. There are many good suggestions above and read them all then make a choice as to what you like out of the suggestions. I have a very nice 51 that we use close to daily and if and when it gets messed up we simply re do it again. No rules says you have to keep your daily driver junky looking. Fix it to a level your happy with and let it go at that.

You don't have to be in a hurry. The truck looks good, it runs and drives, so clean it up and deal with it as you have time and money.

Not a fan of the spotlight. If you don't use it, ditch it. Somebody might give you a few bucks for it. If you want to paint it, rock the patina for a while longer and save up some coin to do it right.

My personal taste leans toward Halibrands or Real Wheels, but if you want to keep the steelies I can understand that. Just don't paint them red.

    I'm with T-Time! Great truck:)

  16. Somebody mentioned not painting the wheels red. There's a guy who comes to a lot of our cruises with a very patina/surface rust/original paint '51 Chevy. He painted the wheels green as in John Deere tractor green. Looks really sharp. Also Ford had a cream color in the '70s and early '80s that is a pretty close match for the Tacoma Cream color that was on a lot of '30s Ford wheels. Henrietta's wheels got painted with plain old black Rustoleum. Paint is something I buy at the hardware store or Tractor Supply.

I'd lose the spotlights, they'd be great in Texas if you were looking for lost calves or street signs. But what to do with the holes???? My '40 is going to dark blue epoxy primer, I stripped her to the steel and tapped out all the dents. Should be in primer this time next week.

Keep it simple, keep it sweet.

didnt Gene louver that. PUT THE HOOD BACK ON! I like it all scratched up, but I would really like it a smooth single color.

take the spots off, leave the wheels and be happy it runs and drives.

  22. I vote for burgundy, and like someone has already said; use enamel, it will weather and look cool, and maybe do a cream colored tuck and roll on the running board. Also chrome reverses with blackwalls.

Same thing a buddy told me when I got my '64 Dodge.

Leave it as is, wash it now and then and drive it.

Personal opinion, but it looks right without the hood, and I lean to black wheels with big and littles. Every thing else is right.

personally man i love these trucks, one of my favorite years. they are timeless. the whole (post war art deco hot rod style)...

i would love to see one chopped 5 1/4 in. drop/drilled axle. white walls, beauty rings. and a louverd hood, and a white cow skin tanue cover. and paint it a light baby blue primer......

well thats just my opininon, nice truck to start with,,...

i say leave the exterior alone, as soon as you start to prep for paint you will find every litte imperfection in it, and then it will become a pain getting it all perfect, as it is now, a little ding here or ther is not noticed at all

I think I almost threw up a couple of time going though this thread:eek:. This pic is my friend Logan's truck. Yours reminds me of his. If it was me I would: Leave the paint, leave the 39 front end, leave the spot lights, leave the stance, paint the inside (I know what you mean about field-truck). Put 40 wheels with biasplys on. get good at putting your hood on, and taking it off (looks good both ways, I like the louvers). Drive it up to the north west for a show!

"this is how the truck looked when I found it in a field, parked since '57. "

This is worth a lot and can't be undone once you start doing stuff to it. Drive it and mess with something else.
