Took a while but I figured out how I wanted to do it.

Had to cut the ends of the rear crossmember off first, and re-weld the crossmember to the framerail.

Welded a couple nuts in the sides of the framerails to bolt this thing to. Started with the side pieces.

Made the front cross brace first. Made me wish I had access to a bender that would do square stuff, but you work with what you've got. Made all my cuts, then tacked it to another piece to keep the warpage down. Worked well.

Welded in. The rear brace too. I will be adding more bracing where I see fit, and will also add a few more mounting points to hold the bed on. But for now, I wanted to get the major pieces assembled to see how it would all work together.

Started on the sheetmetal. A lot of cutting, fitting, trimming, etc.

    The second piece.

Then the rear. After this shot I took another 3" out of the length.

Much better. Rolled it outside to stand back and look...

Good enough, now the other side.

Decided I'll just weld the tailgate on. It will appear functional, but there's really no need for it to actually be functional. And again, a lot of stuff left to do. I need to make a new piece for beneath the tailgate since the original was pretty much rotted away. And I think I'll cut the bed rails off and replace them with new square tubing, as they have seen better days. It will have a wooden floor eventually too. Anyway, the "big picture" fab. is done.

I was a little disappointed in the look after I took the top off. But I've warmed up to it some. Still, looks better with the top on.

Had to loose my upper rear shock brackets too, and now a tube shock wont fit. As soon as I can come across a good pair of Armstrong lever shocks, I'll mount those outside the framerails beneath the bed and link them to the rear end. Still planning on using the same '37 tail lights below the bed. Not sure where I'll mount the license plate just yet.

Thanks guys. I forgot to take any pictures of the black booger removal, sorry :D

I never intended for it to have a bed but after the concept photoshop (below), I was convinced. This car has changed a lot since I first got it on the road, but I think this is the last trick up my sleeve.

I like it... you've done well. It's so close to the Photoshop concept, too.

    Looks good Eric

  25. Fantastic looking truck. It sure has the stance down. It's a little different than the norm too. Very nice. The bed does help an already hot looking rod.
