The upgrades you speak of were bestowed upon this very same car. And yes it was fast. Earning runner up honors to Ohio George's Mustang at 69 Indy, it was one of the fastest gassers, besting many of the new breed of blown gassers; basically tubular framed late model bodied, read- funnycars. Alas, owner Steve Korney succomed to this trend the In 1970, as the Anglia was replaced by a Corvette shell.

That's where I saw the car, Indy 1969. That was a fantastic race. Personally, I didn't like the late model bodies on gassers but I understood why it was happening. Give me a Willys or Anglia any day...:D

I'll dig around. Did the car have a Name? I don't recall and Dad's memory is short.
I keep looking and post them if I find them. Thanks for the note.

Joe raced a A/C injected 426 hemi dragster with a t-bucket body it was red. He won Indy and Dallas in 67 in comp. Raced out of div 1. He then built a gas dragster which I have never seen a picture of. Was not as successful as the comp car. He lived in Fairmont WV, still does, so dragway 42 was one of the close tracks he ran at.:)

Yes sir, Blake Hill was the owner when my dad drove the car. Keith Black was tuning it at that point as well. He didn't drive it long. It was sold to Gommi not long after that.

Incidentally, my dad was actually starting to partner up with Gommi and a new chassis was delivered the day my dad was killed at Orange County in '67...

Thanks, I don't think any of us fans of your dad knew this, would have been great partnership.

I was in the Navy when the Surfers started, but saw them run at Pomona when I was on leave. Was amazed at how the fans reacted, everyone stood up and shouted "surf's up!" clearly the most popular fueler there, and deservedly so.

I notice that a lot of teams tried stream lining the rear engine cars in one way or another at some stage..

Was it eventually banned or did they simply work out that it made no or very minimal difference to ET and MPH?

Anybody have photos from Riverside or Raven Rock dragstrips in Southern Ohio. Or a photo of Porters Pride 68 Hemi Cuda?

  25. How about Charlie Smith's T-altered, record holder ..... Plain Vanilla? Anyone with pictures? I haven't seen anything in years. Cody Parrs car is still in action, and would be good to see it as well.

Cliff Armstrong had a 31 roadster that was raced in the late 50's too, no pictures that I know about.

  27. WCD, You are right. Frank never had the success that Charlie had, but both ran really straight cars. Any pics?

The Addict, Capitol Raceway Park in Maryland. This is a car I built when I was 18. Sold it to Brennan and Matthews, the motor was a gift to them from Gardners parents after Bob Gardner was killed in Vietnam, that's why his name is on the door. We all shared a garage in Olney, Md. Photo is from '70, they used to race against, and beat on occasion Ferd Napfuls "Stormin' Bull" and Jenkins "Grumpys Toy". This car has been converted back to the street and may still be around Germantown, Md.
