Last Saturday night I was coming home from my pal's 37th birthday party and I took a detour.
I decided to go past this tinting place on the corner of 50 and Orange. I know the place is habituated with musclecar dudes, mostly late model shit like Firebirds, Camaros and Mustangs.
I guess I'm too old to be irresponsible but I dumped the clutch on the Packford and smoked the hides going past 'em.
I did a u-turn and came back around when I noticed they were waving for me to come into the parking lot and pay 'em a visit, including a hot young thang videotaping the proceedings.
I thought about it for a second and decided "what the hell" let's go see what this scene is all about.
I had a crowd around the car. They were asking all kinda questions about my rusty 'ol piece of shit, it was kinda cool. "What size is the engine, what the hell's a Packard, are you gonna paint it?"
They told me to come by and bring my hot rodding pals anytime after 10.00 pm on a Saturday night and they were sincere.

I wonder how many of us would have offered them the same courtesy? We are, afterall, an elistist bunch.

I left in a plume of smoke ten minutes later.

Gawd I love hot rods, but so do the musclecar dorks.

Why can't we all get along?

  2. Brother Nads is spreading the Gospell!!! Can I get an AMEN!?

Good point Nads, I can be elitist but at times you need to look around at the rest of the world. So yer buying a new Cobra I take it? [IMG]

Shit, this might be the wrong website, my bad.

  6. Nads, you would look good behind the wheel of a 68 camero with big-ass tires in the back sportin your wavy mullet blastin some Boston. We all like cars and probably would get along, we just don't like to look at each other. [IMG]

I'm one of those muscle car dorks you speak of. But I used to read R&C,American Rodder, etc. before I got my muscle car. I believe what you experienced is the love of all things car. There are people out there that are like that yet, not all is lost. later plmczy

If you hang the Head-lights that I got at the swap meet Sunday on the back of your HotRod, it will bogg the engine [IMG]

Nads, baby. The only guys that thumb thier noses at the hot rods around here are the "Harley" guys. Of course, they are all laywers, dentists and the such and can afford to thumb thier noses....

Really, though..I have noticed that the 13 to 18 year old skate punk/white boy rap/goth kid/jock/hardcore metal kid demographic will walk right past a stickered up Honda to look at one of "our" rusty old cars...

There is hope for civilization yet...

chromedRat, they dig your Impala, that's more than enough.

What we need is a healthy dose of interaction, we can tell them about 8 carb intakes, they can tell us about engine control chips.

    Same thing, different era.

I know they can outrun us, but who cares, we dig wheels, they do the same.

Afterall we all pay the same for gas.

Hey, I cut my teeth wrenching on Muscle Cars and all my friends just about sh!^ a brick when I got my coupe body. Then they really freaked out when I came rollin' through town with an early Hemi in the back of the truck. One guy just about had a coronary when his modified GTP couldn't keep up with my lo-po 440 on the four lane. Anyone who likes cars and isn't a total retard can appreciate a hot rod even if it has rust and isn't finished.
    Just my 2 cents.

Well when I have all the cars I want at least a couple of them will be musclecars. My favorite ride for getting my yayas out was my 4 speed 66 442, I wish I still had it. Does this make me a dork? [IMG] [IMG] [IMG] [IMG]

Hey, I'm a dork and so are most of my friends but we got fast cars, we can fix 'em ourselves, and we don't need a mechanic to tell us whats wrong when the engine doesn't go vrrooom.

Amen to that, as long as it's not (front) wrong-wheel drive.

you know, from what i see, car guys are car guys, regardless. all i really own and am building are old american cars, but i've worked on a few imports too. built a cold air intake for the buddy of mine's honda out of black abs plastic from lowes and a K&N filter from the TPI engine he got from his brother's wrecked camaro. with the home fabricated exhaust, it was a night and day difference and that little car has made a pretty good running daily driver. same guy has the 60 nomad i've posted about on here. my brother is another case like that. he's an industrial designer for porter cable, built a pretty much full on race car out of the little civic he got for a work car. bigger brakes, short throw shifter, dropped slightly, super-light 12 lb. 5 spoke wheels, race tires, performance exhaust and all sorts of other shit with a japan-only DOHC vtec engine. fucker is evil, i shit you not. i got to drive it, for a street car, it is more than fast enough and just a little scary. it is more than enough to give ALOT of cars a run for their money. he destroyed a newer mustang gt from a dead stop up to 100mph with it the other week, sorta ran out of torque past that. his is gunmetal gray and the wheels are matte black. no dumbass wings or stickers, nor does the other guy have those on his car. all business, no show. my brother really digs what we do, and has checked shit out on here from time to time, no less. most everybody would agree that a well done car is to be respected all around. to be honest, the real tuner guys like the fast and furious bullshit just as much as folks on here like the rockariffic poser greaser wannabe flat black 85 S10 with wide white fuckers.

Guess I can't really slam the front-driver's some of those things are pretty damn fast from the factory. I just can't stand the dorks who think a stock civic is fast cause they glue a park bench to the back and put some stickers on.

I like both. My daily-driver, nitrous'ed EFI mustang is fun, but I also like to build and tinker and you just can't do that with the new cars. They're just too expensive or too complicated or both. That's why I hope to someday build the bantam to run circles around my mustang - as long as it's in a straight line (??).

Willowbilly, I just sold my 4-speed '66 442 for $2500 about 10 months ago. The wife was pissed. She loved that car. I MUST be a dork. [IMG]

Okay, I'm gonna 'out' myself a bit here...

I dig old American steel, be it hot rod or muscle car. I just happen to like the aesthetics of the pre 1960 cars better overall. I can't stand those little ricer pieces of shit with their shopping cart handle spoilers and wasp nest mufflers.

My first car was a 1967 Mustang. I loved that car. Did a lot of the maintenance on it myself (oil changes, etc.), I learned quite a bit about cars with that Mustang. Was heartbroken when it got stolen.

When my husband and I were still dating, but pretty serious, he let me use his 74 Camaro as a daily driver for a while. That car was damn fun to drive. Incidentally, that same Camaro is what I'm helping him rebuild right now. Threefold reasons... 1. He wants it to run again 2. I'll be learning a lot more as the work progresses 3. My goal is still my own vehicle... something pre 1960... to build/fix up, whatever. And I'll need HIS help on it. [IMG]

I think its that appreciation for old Steel that we have as a common thread.

  26. Nuthin wrong with diggin muscle cars or any thing close...if it does a burnout with both rear wheels, I can respect it.

  27. Well, now I don't feel as guilty as I did earlier tonight.
On my way to work this morning. I was pulling out or the Quick Shop into traffic when this immaculate, white Cobra slithers by with ultra mellow exhaust. It was slammed, ran polished curved-spoke Americans and he'd done his homework on wheel/tire fit. They came right out to the fenders... I lusted after that car...
    ONce had a 68 GTO, 400, 4 speed and a mullet!

Well, I never had a proper mullet, but I did (and still do) dig early 'Stangs. Had a '69 Mach I 428SCJ toploader & 4:30 gears...talk about quick AND fast!

It's the same - I guess I'm snobbish against anything much past about '74 or so though...the late-model stuff is just, well, too new.

And you didn't call me? Now I am pissed too. I loved that car, it would make those 402 Chevelles look like they were tied to a tree. I never lost a streetfight in that car.
